OEM grill guard

Today I had a chance to closely examine the OEM grill guard, which was mounted on a Silverado pickup sitting on a dealer's lot. I cannot believe how plasticky that thing is! The only positive aspect is that you can still use the front tow hooks when it is installed. But large expanses of cheap plastic wrapping most of the grill cover are not appealing to me. And that plastic is bound to crack when you hit something, even at very low speed.

I have one and its not that great. It looks good from the front but looks awkward from the side, its almost too long and waaay too much plastic. I'm actually hoping someone will back into it so I can recoup some money.

Not much of any stock 'guards' are meant to guard anything (except for the dealers to be the ones guarding what used to be your money).

I'm guessing, for the price of the stock one, you could get an aftermarket one that'd be alot better.

Anymore, everything is done more for looks while on the showroom floor, and not what it'll look like after the vehicle meets real life.

Even motorcycle manufacturers are going with plastic for fenders.

What's up with that ?

... It's cheaper and they can still charge the same.

Go aftermarket !!!

I recently put a Hunter black grill guard on my 04 Silverado. I got it off ebay for $240 which included shipping. The quality is excellent. I was going to buy the OEM one before this one but this is SO much more durable. The install was easy. The only complaint I have about it, and I think this goes for every guard, is that it vibrates when going down a road that isn't smooth. I even have vibration on the Highway. The vibration is just annoying. I have checked the installation hardware once every other day when I first put it on just to make sure it is not slipping or loose in any way.
