4500 HD chassis (remember the Bruin concept)

Evidently the Bruin concept will be making it to production as a 4500HD! According to my source, this is planning to go into production in the next 90 days. Expect to see marketing stuff probably within the 45-60 days.

Rumor has it a Cummins diesel may be an option!

UUUUUUGly!!!! Why would they even think of making this ugly truck. I think it must have the same designer as the TRUCKSTER SEDAN that was in the first vacation movie!! If a person really needs that kind of rig they could buy a crew cab Freightliner. If you're really going to haul that much it would be a much better choice. You could choose a 600HP motor with 2050 ftlbs torque!!!! With air ride suspension, air ride cab, and air ride seat, I'm sure it would ride just as nice ann do a lot better job of towing and hauling!

Merv, they may have multiple diesel options with varying levels of power.

Bob, someone like me who hauls two race cars to the track and would want a moderately sized trailer capable of taking a workshop along with us and carrying 4 or 5 of us in Caddy like comfort would need something in that size. Yes, I could buy a Freightliner, but then in many cases, that would never fit into many dragstrip parking lots/pit areas.

What about people who have a family and have big campers/RV's? They may need something bigger than a crew cab p/u to tow the load they need. A Suburban wouldn't be a choice due to it's extra weight cutting down it's towing capacity as well as not being able to 5th wheel with it. Something like this would also still be small enough to fit into campground grounds. Something a Freightliner wouldn't

I won't even get into commercial use, especially in tight dowtown areas like here in Chicago, where even a standard size medium duty box van is too big.

One must look beyond their own world to see that other people DO use other types of vehicles.

I'm not saying that aren't a few people who would see the use for an ugly truckster like this one, but do you really think there would be enough interest that GM wouldn't lose their ass?

Did you see the size of that S.O.B.?, a single axle freightliner with a crew cab would be just as manuverable(especially towing a big trailer like you're talking about)!!

I hope you don't get upset. It's just my opinion!! ####, I could even be wrong, but I doubt it!

You better believe I'd pick a straight six over a V-8 diesel, any day of the week! Just as good performance, better economy, and a much simpler design. Gotta love those torque curves it puts out too!

According to this, the Bruin is only going to get the Duramax 6600 in the engine compartment. Even the 4500/5500 trucks don't have an optional diesel engine other then the Duramax 6600. The larger trucks (C6500 and up) have multiple diesel engine options, from both Isuzu and Cat.

I'm not upset, just saying that someone else will find a need for it it you don't.

And that is still smaller than a Freightliner which would make for easier manueverablility in tight confines.

Duramax and Caterpillar seem much more likely. Also, has anyone heard of a Chevy Titan/

I haven't heard the Cummins option either before this, but it would be nice. I think in terms of diesels though, the Cat and Duramax will be the only choices available, at least in the forseeable future.

C/K, with Dodge possibly dropping their affiliation with Cummins due to the fact that Mercedes Benz also makes diesel truck engines, is leaving Cummins out of the game. Which has been part of the rumor through service bulletins of potential training being given to techs should GM decide to go with a Cummins.

And Bob, if you go to www.trucktrend.com go into road test, click on the First Look tab, click on the picture icon next to the Chevy Bruin, you'll see picture #7 our of 8. #7 parks the Bruin next to an extended cab, 6.5" bed HD truck. While it is larger than the HD, it isn't Freightliner sized! At least all the Freightliner's I've seen aren't that small.

A Dodge rep. at the Chicago auto show debut of the new Ram 2500/3500 said

that though replacing the Cummins with an MB diesel was considered, they are

NOT going to do it. Something like 75% of the over 8500 GVW Rams are

ordered with the Cummins, and I guess they don't want to shoot themselves

in the foot! If G.M. did offer a Cummins, my guess is that it would be in larger

commercial trucks. Did the service bullitens name a specific Cummins engine?

Nope, but I did not know that D-C came to a conclusion on which diesel to use. If they are sticking with the Cummins, I don't think we'll see it in a GM truck anytime soon.
