AFTER READING THE RULES I GUESS THEY DONT WANT NEGATIVE COMMENTS, BUT WHATS UP WITH GM CLAIMING

PISTON SLAP IS NOT DETRIMENTAL TO LONGEVITY OF ENGINE? THIS IS NOT THE LAND OF OZ!  MY 2002 2500 HD

CREW CAB HAS ONLY 1,000 MILES ON IT AND SO FAR PURRS LIKE A KITTEN. I HOPE I DONT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. IM NOT A MECHANIC, BUT I DONT SWALLOW THIS LOAD!

The negative comments are aimed at members of this site.  Not the products discussed.

 

Evidently there's a faulty piston/wrist pin design that causes piston slap.  See bigblackmotors thread in regards to this.

Some of these engines are having a pinging (pre-detonation) type (some call it knocking)sound that is most often heard under light to moderate acceleration. This can be caused by a number of different things.  Some of these trucks have had some success with carbon removal techniques.  

 

On the other hand, the Cold Start Knock/PISTON SLAP is a matter of too much piston to cylinder bore clearance.  If it is significant, it will cause accelerated wear. For more info on Piston Slap, see  http://www.gmpistonslap.cjb.net
