The HD has to be real close to production. My new 07 GMC 1500 is in the dealer today getting its front chrome bumper replaced (They buffed the chrome so much before delivery that it took the chrome off in a couple small areas).

Anyway, they sent a HD front bumper by mistake!

It's real close!

This site will help if you want to see options but no prices.

Saleable production starts the First week of Feburary. Hope your not wanting a Duramax too bad. The price has gone up from $6000 to $8500 for the option.

Thats not good news(amount of price increase). :D Unfortunately to get the truck that fits my wants/needs(towing an enclosed 24ft/7000lb. trailer across the plains states into the Rocky Mountains) I believe I am left with no option other than the Duramax/Allison option. I don't think the 6.0L will fit my needs to be able to tow the above mentioned set-up encountering 40mph headwinds with a few big/long elevation changes in the road with ease which I have longed to have for quite some time now....

The RV sites say if you dont tow at least 21000mi a year along with everyday driving a diesel isnt worth the expense. $8500 and basic Diesel maintance will buy a lot of gas.

I guess what is important to me this time around(relating to tow vehicle) is to have something that is 100% capable of towing what I need to tow and do it with ease. Probably not the smartest decision from an economic perspective but I really want the experience of taking these winter wonderland trips(heading out west to ride our sleds in the steep & deep) and not feeling like I am killing the vehicle just to get there....

That calculator only figures mileage not the high costs of buying& maintaining a deisel thats where the high costs is. The average person would have to keep a Deisel over 12 years to get it to pay off.

Personally i dont keep my vehicles anywhere that long. My oldest service truck 2000 has over 202000mi and will be gone by this next fall.

A quick link to play with the difference between gas/diesel prices and mileage, figure you savings a year with the diesel then see ho many years it takes to overcome the price difference at purchase.

Yea, when I ordered my CC back in 04, I looked hard at the Duramax vs. the Big Block. Figured with amount of driving I did, cost of fuels, maintenance, etc., I could drive the Big Block for 7+ years before MPG / fuel savings would even come close to initial cost of the diesel.

Too bad the 8.1 won't be an option for the 07's. Hopefully they will figure out EPA stuff and bring them back soon. Until then, I'm keeping my Big Block!

Are these figures considering in your monthly payments? Or is it just considering the sticker price? What about resale?

If you tow anything big, even just once in awhile, I feel the diesel is well worth it. The maintenence isn't all that bad. One more filter every 15K and 4 quarts of oil every 3-5K.

Before 2007 models......What about the 100K warranty??

Sit down and figure out the price difference between the gas & Deisel along with maintance . A 5.3L takes 6 qts oil and a Dmax probably uses 10-12 qts along with fuel, oil & air filters you need to haul over 21000mi a year for 12 years to get your money out of a diesel. Do you tow over 21K a year ? if so a diesel may be good for you.

10 quarts of oil yes. Air filter $15.Fuel filters are @$35. Fuel can change at any time. I used to have a 5.3, but I can't tow my gooseneck trailer with a 5.3. The trailer alone is almost at max capacity. I tow about 10K a year, but like I said above, I can't move my trailers with a 5.3 or 6.0. This is why these figures are wrong. Some people tow bigger campers and other things which are more than just a snowmobile trailer. The whole study should be thrown out the window when it comes to actually using your truck.

If you tow for real you need a diesel. For posers like me that MIGHT get a 6k trailer gas is the way to go.

As Roofer said, when your trailer empty nears the trucks limit, its time to go diesel.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
