I notice that the rear door speakers have no tweeters. Are these amped speakers like the fronts and would changing these to a aftermarket be an issue?

Thanks

That is correct, the speakers in the rear are only 4" full range drivers....pretty weak sounding in my opinion. You can put 4x6 speakers in the rear with very little modifications, I believe the only thing you have to do it drill the holes to mount the speaker. There are no factory screw holes in the door panel. I believe the rears run through the Bose amp as well, but having aftermarket speakers put in place should not have any negative effects, just better sound. I am about to do just that to my ext cab actually.

Great!

Let me know what speakers you choose, how the install goes and how it sounds!

Thanks!

Any updates to this thread? I want to get rid of this shi**y Bose crap ASAP but have no idea what route to take in doing so. I figure I will have to replace everything. Not sure if I want to go through and replace all the wiring with new wire, but I suppose that would be the smart thing to do. Any suggestions for head units, speakers, amps? Id like to be able to use cds full of mp3s, and eye candy on the display is always nice. I've been looking at some Pioneer units. Just so many to choose from. Would be nice to see what others are using.

Well I just ordered some 4 x 6 plates to replace the bose rear door speakers. I'll reply to let you all know how the install went.

I installed a set of Kenwood X-460's in the rear doors of my 05' Sierra and am quite pleased with the sound. 100 bucks through Crutchfield but can be bought from E-Bay sellers for considerably less. Had good luck buying from here. Kenwood X-460

Be very careful when changing out factory Bose speakers.

I know of a few instances where someone would drop in 2 or 4 ohm aftermarket speakers and would toast the factory Bose amp. Most factory Bose systems are based off of an 8 or even 12 ohm setup.

Don't know what ohms means when dealing with car audio? Heh.....

Yea thats what I was wondering about. I think I posted a new thread asking if anyone knew the specs of the Bose system. I plan on replacing the whole thing because I know at least part of the system is junk. I cant believe how crappy it sounds for a company who is supposed to be "a leader" in audio. The home stuff sounds great.
