Intermediate Steering Shaft Fix!!!

I just got back from my Chevy dealer from having the intermediate steering shaft fixed for the 3rd time. Even though the truck is out of warranty.

I have been thinking that Borgensen may have a fix. While I was waiting for the truck I looked at a 4 wheel drive magazine and lo and behold they showed a steering shaft fix by Borgensen. Below is the website page!

Doesnt work, has already been bought tested and some of them even returned it back to borg because it actually starts to clunk faster and worse feeling then a stock one will.Im waiting on this revised shaft i keep hearing will be showing up at dealers next month.

Like he said...more junk and not cheap either...I made Borgeson refund me for mine....

at the dealership im at the mechanics are trying to build a stering shaft out of cores that have a grease fitting on them to make it easier to grease and maybe not make it so bad.

i still would like to get one of those flaming river shafts but $400 is alot of dough for a stupid shaft.

I bought the GM kit, greased mine, and haven't had a problem since. That was over 4yrs ago. Only thing is, I pumped mine completely full of grease because I didn't think GM supplied enough with the kit.

$210 for a steering shaft?? GEEZ!

I unbolted one 15MM bolt under the hood, "stroked" the shaft a few times, bolted the 15MM bolt back up, problem is GONE completely. Took me 5 minutes...literally.

Now, I know the problem will come back eventually, but doing that 5 minute procedure in the driveway is WAY better than the hassle of taking it to a dealership until the new revised shaft finally comes out.

Had mine done 10K ago under warranty and had no problems since. I'd suggest repeat visits are an indication that they just didn't do right the first time.

Fill the mother with grease and be done with it....

If that were the case in general I don't think they would be coming out with a new shaft. You have to remember that a few fortunate owners have reported never having the problem. There are probably a number of variables that determine how long the lubrication lasts. But if lubrication is preferred over replacing the current part, it indicates something is amiss with the part itself.

on a side not my truck is new, only 8000 miles. would it be better for me to pack it now or just wait for it to start clunking? dont know if it will save any wear.

Mine started clunking around 10,000 miles. Yours is probably getting close to starting the problem.

Mine started clunking within 1,000 miles of new. I've driven allot of vehicles over the years and this is the ONLY ONE that clunks. You think they'd have figured it out by now.
