94/95 Sierra Head Units Interchangeable??

Hi

I'm trying to find out whether the factory cd head unit from a 1995 Sierra 3500 can fit and work in a 1994 model?

Currently, the 94 has the factory non-cd head unit, with the cassette deck mounted separately under the hvac fans to the right of the head unit.

I'd like to replace the 94 deck with a factory 95 unit that has the built in cd player.

while keeping the factory look.

Anyone know?

Are the bezels the same size?

How about the wiring harnesses?

etc.

It won't work, at least not without alot of work and tearing up your dashboard. The wiring harnesses are basically the same... the three small plugs in the 94 will fit into the 95's one large plug and vice versa. It's just that the 95 radio won't fit anywhere because the dashes are completely different. You can't mount the radio anywhere either because the wiring harness is so short, it can barely reach the edge of the casette deck!

 

My advice, just go aftermarket... but if you absolutely want to do this, you should know the 94 radio is seperated into two parts, the controller and the amplifier. The controller is what you see in the dash, that's not important. The amplifier, which is hidden underneath the dash, is what you want. This webpage shows how to get to it. The two plugs on the bottom of the amplifier lead to the controller and cassette deck, you don't need them. What you need is the three small plugs and antenna cable on the top. Disconnect those and run them to your new radio.
