I would like to see this...can someone post pics of your truck with no lift and the larger tires...

i probably wont be able to get a lift for a while, but tires will be an option so i'll have to stick with upsized maxxis buckshots or something until I can get a lift...just would like to see if it looks better over the stock look.

Biggest I've seen without any lift kit is 305/70-17. Those will fit and all you might have to do is crank the torsion bars up just a small amount. If you flex your truck heavily off-road then you'll want to stick with a 285 or 295 series tire.

Another question

with the 285s are there problems with the ABS or speedo or auto 4x4 system problems ?

how about fuel milage and breaking ?

I had 285's on my stock 16x7 rims on my 03 for over 50k miles and I never had any issues at all with the speedo, ABS or otherwise. I went from 245's to 285's too. I've got 305's on now but I also have a 3" BL. If you have a hand held tuner it's also easy to recal the speedo to match the tire size. I have a Superchips. Only thing i had when I had my 285's was a cold air kit and catback exhaust. I never had any rubbing and I drive my truck 100mi day roundtrip.

i had my speedo recalibrated at the dealer. i was there so often they did it for free.

gas milage is still 20 highway, 16 city

I just installed 285's. The dealer told me that there was nothing they could do to recalibrate the speedo. They said it would only help the ABS system. Does this sound correct?

mine said he couldn't program it for 285/70/17s so he programed it for 285/75/16s.

seems to be fine. i have gps and the speedo is on now and i've kicked the abs in a few times and never had any problems

I have a 2000 Silverado Z71, and I was able to fit 285 75 R16 BF Goodrich all terrain TA/KO tires on it. They have never rubbed no matter how sharp a turn I have made, or no matter what I have driven over. You might check if it is the same for the 2005, but I do recommend the BFG's

Hi Steve,

I have a 2005 as well, and I gotta tell you...From past experience, messing with the torsion bars is not a good idea. I was going to put 285s on my 2000 back in the day, and tweaking the torsion bars made my truck ride less enjoyable. It's up to you if you do that or not though.

The biggest I've seen most people do is 285 wide, but if I had to do it over again, I'd go with 275.

Hope that helps.

So I put the 285's on last week. It actually rides smoother than my 245's. It looks so much better. I don't think they even cranked my torsion bars, and I know they didn't trim the corners of my air dam. They ride really well...EXCEPT it was 45mph winds the other day and it was all over the interstate going about 75 mph. So I don't know if they didn't align the truck after the new tires like they said they would or what.

Strongly recommend the 285's. A little slower from a complete stop I think.
