Well I know what kind, but I don't know the size.  I'm getting the Super Swamper Trxus MTs.

I can't decide on the size though.  They have 235/85, 255/85, 265/75, and 285/75.

I'm either going to get stock aluminum wheels from a LS or some 16/8's if I get a wider tire.

I plan on turning up the torsion bars about 1.5 inches.  Right now, at the center of the fenderwell, it sits at 37.75 inches.  I guess I'll turn it up to 38.25.

Will this give me enough clearence to clear the 285.  I might occasionally bottom out the front suspension (you never know) and I don't want the tires to rub the fenders.  Well, a little wont hurt, but not all the time.

I also have a Ranchhand front replacement bumper,  So I can't do any trimming on the air dam.

Those are the same tires I have been looking at.  I'm staying with the OEM wheels and plan on putting 255/85's on them.  I have heard from several other people running this size in Dunlop Radial Rovers w/o any problems or adjustments needed.  My only concern is the ride quality and noise as I don't know anyone who has them.  I spoke with the factory in Rayne, LA, which is 40 miles from my home.  Claimed they were suprising quiet on the interstate with a good ride.  Told me to expect 30-40,000 miles out of them if rotated regurlarly.  I don't know where you are getting the tires from, but they quoted me a price of $119 per tire if I bought them there.  Let me know what you think about them when you get them.  One of the best looking tires I've seen short of pure mud tires.

Hey SWLA,  I don't know if you get any off-road mags, but in the March 2002 ed. of Off-Road they have an article about the Trxus MTs.  They say they are almost silent

They said " We even put the truck in Neutral, rolled the window down, turned off the ignition, and coasted downhill to see if there was any tire noise.  The only thing we heard was the air whistling by."  So I guess they're quiet.

I've found the 255/85/16 as low as $112 in one ad.  In another they were $118.  And 4wheelparts had them for $119.95.

Hopefully, sometime within the next week I will make up my mind and get some.  I'll let you know what I think.

One thing to keep in mind is the 235/85 and 285/75 are 10 ply rated tires.  The 255/85  and 265/75 are 8 ply rated.  Unless you really need more puncture resistance, the difference in height may be worth getting the smoother-riding 8 ply rating.

Just curious, does anyone know if any of the tire manufacturers make a 10 ply (E load) 255/85?  Every 255/85 I've seen is 8 ply (D load).
