cooling system wondering

I don't no why but I.m not able to keep some liquid coolant on my reserve canister.

Each time that I filled up to the reference mark (cold/hot), and after a few miles ride its empty again. The level on the radiator is always at 3/4 full and there's some drop on the garage floor. When I live it like that (3/4 full) I have no problem, no heating at all.

Thanks

Your leak is likely somewhere above the 3/4 full mark as you mentioned. It is hard to say where it is but I have read many post where the water pump gasket was leaking. If you do replace the gasket, replace the pump while you have it off.

I bought my Burb at 136 K with no records, do you think it could be the original pump ?

Very likely if that's where the leak's coming from.

Have someone pressure test it for you, radiator shops will do it for free or buy the pressure tester yourself, they're not expensive.

Can it be the radiator cap that don't open ?

Thanks all for your help

Most likely a slow leak in the overflow bottle. I had a similar problem with my '99 Mazda. After I replaced the overflow bottle, no more problems.

Coolant leaks are usually noticeable because of white powdery deposits left behind at the leak point. As others pointed out, do a pressure check on the system. I think Auto Zone rents coolant pressure testers.

I just changed my water pump this last weekend because I kept having to add antifreeze on a monthly basis. Mine was leaking from the drivers side water pump gasket. It's hard to get a good viewof the water pump and the hose network with the fan shroud and air intake hoses in the way. If you take the 10 minutes it takes to remove the hoses and shroud, you will get a very good view of what's going on. The waterpump was an easy evolution 9 bolts, and remove some hoses and it was done. I think getting the coolant system pressurized with the intake hoses and fan shroud removed would be the thing to do. My water pump was fine but I changed it out just because I was already in there.

Are you running DEXCOOL ?

IF you are....allowing air to get into the system often times creates a sludging out of coolant.

Take the time to find the leak! Check your oil and consider an oil sample analysis. Is your oil milky in color ? Under the oil cap ?

Bottom line.....find the leak and repair it pronto.....

Yes I'm whit Dexcool, oil is not milky and no coolant in oil for sure. Probably the pump, I let you know.
