2000 coolant problem

I have a 2000 chevy suburban with a 5.3. I let it set for a day or two. I noticed that there was a leak under my truck. It was coolant. I drove it around and It did not leak. I have been driving it with no leaking What was that? Should I be concerned? I drive to the river in the summer and I don't want to break down.

Hard to say where it is coming from but I would be looking into it. My guess is, it is etiher the water pump or the water pump gasket. If you find it is the gasket, replace the water pump while you have it off.

 

Bottom line, if you saw coolant once, you will see it again and the next time it likely will not be while you are at home.

I had basically the same situation. Finally took it in and they did a pressure test and found a seal on the water pump had a leak and the block drain bolt had a leak as well. I had tried finding it myself on a creeper with a light, found nothing. I suggest you have someone do a pressure test and fix it before you end up needing a tow. Good luck.

Yes, you should be concerned. Yes, you definately have a leak. As C & A s dad and jhm mentioned it is probably an easy fix. Don't hesitate, don't wait for disaster to happen.

I would have to agree w/ water pump the alumnium expands when it's hot, if it's that intermitant I would rec. adding coolant dye to the anti-freeze, then run it for a day or so then check it w/ a black lite for accurete diag.
