Brake Controller

You should be able to purchase the brake controller and the wiring harness that goes with it...I'm told on newer trucks there is just a connector hanging there ready to be plugged in to.

A good controller can be purchased with a prewired pigtail that will plug directly into a GM harness. The GM harness plugs into the fuse block behind the E-brake pedal (top row second from the left).

You will also have to install a maxi-fuse in the electrical center (under the hood). The fuse goes in stud #1 or #2 (can't remember for sure).

I'm using a Tekonsha Prodigy controller.

That's what I thought. I only know for sure that for my truck I'll have to hardwire it in.

To add to the simplicity of the instanllation, GM placed two very conveniently positioned holes in the steel below the plastic below the steering wheel. I was able to use a pair of small screws with nuts to suspend my controller between my knees next to the parking brake release. For me, it is not in the way, and I can see the brake controller through the bottom of the steering wheel. It's quick and easy, and you don't have to drill into the plastic of your dash.

Hi All: Very new here. I have a 99 Yukon Denali and need to hook up a brake controler. From what I have learned, the 99 does not have a plug and go slot, just to wires under the hood that needs to be feed back thru the fire wall and connected.

Does anyone find it "funny" that we pay extra for the heavy duty towing package and still have to install a brake controller? Why isn't it included with the package and installed where it is operator convenient?
