Radio Antenna

Does anyone know if you can screw the radio antenna off of a 2500HD? Year is 2001. I have purchased a truck cover and if I could screw the antenna off it would make it much easier to install the cover. I looked at it and it didn't appear to screw off.

I went for a ride in a 2002 a week or so ago.  The truck was fresh off the transporter and hadn't been prepped yet.  The antena was stuck in the map pocket on the passenger door and threaded up through the arm-rest.

I don't think the trucks have changed from 01 to 02 so I would say the answer is yes!!!

Look towards the base of it.  It comes to a thick cylinder shape w/ two sides lopped off.  Just take your trusty crescent wrench and loosen it a bit and then just unscrew it w/ your hand.  Piece of cake.  Make sure when you reinstall it you tighten it up otherwise it'll wobble when your driving and bug the heck out of you.

In the glovebox of my 2002 HD was a plastic wrench that was for the purpose of removing the antenna. Not exactly Snap-On material but thoughtfull of GM anyhow.

I had to take mine off and saw about 2" off of it because it kept hitting on the bottom edge of my garage door when I would pull in and out. That was way too annoying! :D

Hehee, actually I was staring at it for the longest time wondering what the heck it was for until I realized, DOH!!!  Antenna.  :)

No problem fitting them as I had already turned up the torsion bars, no trans problems and no recalibration.  My speedo/odo is about 7% slow.

People have asked about possible trans problems with the bigger tires and I don't buy it.  This transmission is capable of handling 16,000+lbs with either the 8.1 or Duramx twisting through it, a tire that's 4 sizes bigger isn't going to hurt it in any way, shape, or form.  If something happens internally to the trans, then it's something that was wrong long before putting bigger tires on.

As to warranty issues, this is a grey area.  See a thread I replied to about warranty issues not to long ago in this section.  Essentially it's dependant on the dealer.  Some couldn't care less, some see a cat-back system and are on the phone to GM to void your entire warranty.

At our dealership, they could've cared less, we were all for performance mods.  However the Chevy dealer down the road was run by a Nazi service manager who didn't tolerate anything.

If that doesn't work, the thread is titled "Tires voiding warranty" here in this section.   :D

Thanks for the info.

Its' in the high 50's right now in northern NY and I think I'll go out and attempt to install my Westin bars, tonno cover and see if the pressure blaster still works.

Bring on Spring,screw Winter. :)
