A/C and Vent Controls

Hey all,

i have, i think 2 problems, 1st, i would like to get the vents to blow correctly.

1997 GMC Suburban k1500 front/rear ac/ with rear defrost

i can have the vent control on "vent" it blows lightly out of the vents, BARELY any out of the defroster.( i know its not SUPPOSED to) i change the knob to defrost or any other setting, it blows on the floor. from my reading, i read it may be a vacuum hose... where are they for me to check?

as for the A/C problem, it wasn't working, so naturally i check the freon level. still holding fine, had an AC guy check it as well. when i click the AC button on my truck, nothing would happen (no compressor etc.. ) so, i bought a new switch to hopefully fix the problem. i plugged it in, turned it on with some hope... i smelled the "electric burning" smell. pulled the switch back out, saw a small resistor on the board was a little warm looking. (discolored) what would cause this?

here's what i have done...

- i have checked the relay and fuses (under hood and in door panel) all ok replaced the relays anyway

- i jumped a 12v wire from the battery to the ac compressor, clutch engaged. so, that's not broken.

- i have tore apart the chiltons book inside and out and my hayes book... read the wire schematics and followed them the best i could.

can anyone please help?

Thank you in advance,

michael
