Replacing the cat

My truck has the error code saying that the catalyst efficency is below threshold on bank 2. So I am assuming that I need to replace my right cat. Crawling under the truck, I see that all of this is one piece, both cats back to the single pipe. Here's my question, I am in college and broke, can I just have an aftermarket cat welded in where the bad one is? Or do I need to replace the whole assembly. The truck runs great, idles fine, etc...Any input would be great! Thanks

I replaced the cat on my 88 with a catco high flow unit from Summit Racing. Much better flow and better sound. It was a single downstream of the y pipe though.

LOL...Good one pm26...I have searched ebay.com and the only thing I can find is around $280.00, I just can't swing that now...Maybe I'll keep driving it for a while....It performs fine, and gets good fuel mileage...So I am not sure whats going on.
