Clearing Codes

Had the old check engine symbol light up recently.

Took the truck in to the stealership to have it checked out.

The diagnosis was 2 codes indicating 2 bad O2 sensors.

 

I was quoted an outrageous price for both the sensors and

the labor to do the job.

 

I'm planning to do the job myself and don't think the task

will be that difficult. However, I have no experience with, or

knowledge of, clearing codes once the sensors have been

replaced.

 

Can anyone give me some recommendations on high quality

sensors and a little guideance on clearing the code(s).

 

Any help would be appreciated.

The codes may actually clear themselves after you replace the O2 sensors and perform a certain number of drive cycles. I don't know exactly how many cycles but others may know. The OBDII system is fairly sophisticated sometimes.

Or you can replace the sensors and head off to one of your local auto parts stores to have them clear the codes for free...Or possibly invest in your own scanner (about $100 for one that will read and clear codes). They pay for themselves in short order when your only other option is a dealer.

i second the Auto Zone option. i had a s-10 that had an intermittent tranny code and would just stop in and the guys would clear it for me.
