New Truck Ext cab vs Crew Cab

I'm looking at getting a new Silverado truck (07) since I never owned a truck before I'm trying to find out what is better.. We have no kids so it will be mostly my wife and I in the truck most of the time.. plus we have other car if we need to take 4 people...

 

I'm looking at these to models

 

Ext Cab short bed LTZ or

 

Crew Cab short bed LTZ (10" long)

 

there is about $3800 diffecnce too... (crew cab more)

I would guess it might be a little better because of the fixed B pillar. However, I don't think that it would make that big of difference. From what you say, it sounds like an ext cab you suite you needs just fine. It’s not that big of deal to use the rear hinged doors, and now they open 170 degrees.

It all depends on what you will use your new truck for.

For the two of you, an extended cab will work just fine. There is plenty of room in back just in case you do carry the occasional passenger or two. You are basically looking at a people/cargo trade off with either choice, but not much of a trade off (ie: a few more inches of legroom and a traditional rear door for a rear passenger in the crew cab vs. a few more inches of cargo room and suicide rear doors in the extended cab).

 

Both trucks have identical dimensions outside. I chose the crew cab because of the family.

I am a single person, and I got a crew cab, and personally, could not go back to anything but, I love the space! Plus my friends appreciate it too!

Get a crew cab. You'll not regret it. Less wind noise, 4 real doors which operate independently, and much more space in the back. However, it should cost only about 1500 more with the same equipment. $ 3800 more is too much.

the crew cab is better if you dont want to be folding the seats down all the time to access the back.

Since you're getting the short bed anyways, go with the crew cab. I love crew cabs, but HATE being limited to the short bed on the half-tons.

how about the extended cab and standard bed? that should be about the same overall length as the crew cab short bed.

Since you don't have any kids, I would suggest you go for the extended model. I have a 2006 Silverado, it's extended and it's perfect. It's pretty comfortable in the rear seats. I would tell you to go for a crew cab if you had kids. From experience I say the extended is way better than a crew cab.

The 07's now have an Extended Cab with shorty box. If you don't have people in the back seat a lot and don't need the near 10" of box cargo space this would be a good choice and it should fit in some of the older smaller garages.

Get the Crew if you have a need for a lot of people hauling as the standard rear doors would be easier access.
