Adding Bluetooth?

The one thing I'm really disappointed in GM for not including in the new Silverado is Bluetooth. I assume it's done as to not take sales away from their own OnStar system, but this should be standard on every auto on the market today.

 

I know that Alpine has kits that work with some of their newer head units to add Bluetooth, but are there any options for the stock 2007 head unit?

 

I've got a Garmin GPS which has Bluetooth built in, but I'd like another option...

I looked at GM's OnStar website and they have no plans in the near future to integrate bluetooth into their system.

 

Bluetooth integrated into the head unit would be the best solution for me also, but I have been looking for a while and have found nothing.

 

Aftermarket bluetooth car kits aren't that expensive though. Most have small control panels that will go anywhere and some have options to use the cars speakers and muting capablilities. It's almost as good. I'll be getting one of those soon.

 

Motorola and Parot make decent kits.

Yes, there are two options. I assume you're seeking Bluetooth for your GPS but perhaps also for your cell phone (most users). Motorola makes a handsfree Bluetooth phone kit and Parrot http://www.parrot.biz does also.

 

Both kits tie into your factory headset and play phone calls (or gps instructions) through the factory stereo. If a call comes in or GPS commands are issued, the stereo (if playing) mutes. Once the call ends, the stereo resumes.

 

All functions available with the OnStar cell service are passed through (i'm told). That means your caller ID 'should' appear on the DIC, etc.

 

It is worth noting the Parrot units include a small screen that you mount somewhere (overhead, dash, etc.) that are used to also view caller ID, phone book info, etc.

 

Both units also function via voice command, so you can just 'speak' like you do with Onstar.. (eg., Dial....Home).

 

I'll be ordering the Parrot 3200 LS unit shortly (about $150). A wiring harness is avail for about $50 which enables plug n play connection (no splicing at all).

 

I'll likely take pics and post a note when done (within a few weeks).

Thanks. The current GPS (Garmin CX550) has bluetooth, and pretty good speakers, so it works pretty well as a handsfree kit. It allows me to initiate, answer, and end calls through the touchscreen, and supports voice dialing.

 

With the GPS and radar detector, I'd really like to avoid another mounted device.

 

But the Parrot does look like an interesting option. I'm interested in seeing your results.
