1999 Sierra Hard Shifts

I have a 1999 GMC Sierra and the problem I am having is that it shifts hard out of first gear from a stop. It does this only if you come to a complete stop to make it shift all the way down. Also it doesn't do it when it is cold, only after it has warmed up. What it will do when you are stopped is when you go to give it gas you can feel it engage as it takes off and the right as it is shifting up you can feel it start to shift then it hits hits hard and takes off again. The problem is worse if you take off slowly than if you give it a lot of gas. Anyone have similar issues or know what it could be?

I have the same thing, but i live with it.

I'd rather have it slam, and i can feel it...then with my old S10, which would slop itself into 2nd gear, eventually blowing the tranny at 92K

I just didn't know if it was a sign that something was getting ready to go out or not.

If it will ease your mind, see what a tranny shop says. Not a place like Jiffy Lube...those guys are bastards.

Find a local place you're comfortable with...or just ask around. You could even call a dealer.

Peace of mind is better than worries down the road. My S10 was driving horrible in all gears. My "buddy" told me my catalytic converter was plugged. After i ripped it off and had to bandaid a new CAT on, because the pipes would not fit, it still ran horrible.

I then found out a month later...it wasnt the CAT...it was the tranny slipping...and it made more sense now. Surprisingly it put out no codes. To this day i have no idea how that thing didnt show a code in the sky. The day i was driving it to the dealer to trade it in, the SES light comes on. 3 codes...all tranny failure.
