2500 HD Service Brake System

I was up at a race this weekend. Temps were -8 to -16 and today they were -2 tonight.

 

I filled up this weekend a few times and tonight. This has happened twice now and I have noticed one common thing.

 

When I was filling up I had the key half way in the ignition. Then I filled up went back in pushed the key in and started the truck. The Brake and ABS light came on and dinged. The digital read out said "service brake system" soon. This has never happened before, fluids are fine and brakes appear to be fine. I was trying to avoid taking the truck up to the dealer and pay for the computer to get hooked up.

 

I turn it off pull the key out, open the door and close it then start it right back up and it works fine.

 

Any one ever had this happen and does it sound like a computer glitch?

 

It's a 2003 GMC Sierra HD.

There's a bulletin out on this, you need to reflash your computer for a brake update released in July of 2004. here's a link :TSB

Thanks for the info! Will the dealer do it for free? I am out of warranty and in extended warranty.

Hopefully its only a glitch,

 

I've had to replace both the ABS controller and a separate brake contrl valve.

 

Big bucks. And I was not impressed.

Turns out it was a ground issue. Parts were ordered yesterday and I took the truck back in today to get it put in. I have an extended warranty on the truck. It may be cheaper for labor and parts then paying my $100 deductible.
