Fuel Injectors

Hi, my name is Andrew, from Canada

I am having major problems with my 1999 Yukon 5.7 truck. It started out by not starting when the weather suddenly went cold. I changed the spark plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor, ignition modual, alternator and battery. I managed to get it started but it ran really badly. A few days later it wouldn't start at all so I got it towed and they put in a new fuel pump and filter. It was running but missing badly. Took it home and next day took it to a GM dealer who got the P0300 code. Took it home and it died again. Got it towed to another dealer who ran all sorts of tests including one for the fuel injectors (can I attach that to a post for you to see?). He feels it needs a new catalytic converter plus all 8 injectors replacing. Has there been any recall on these injectors? Why would all of them go at once?

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Have them try cleaning the injectors before they replace them (replacing injectors will run you well over $1200 for all 8, cleaning is only around $100 if I recall). It is also possible that your cat is partially clogged, but it should throw a code along the lines of 'catalyst below threshold efficiency' or something like that. The no-start problem does sound like a fuel pump to me but you state that they fixed that issue. Did you get to see the pump they took out? Whenever I have work done in a shop I request to see the parts they took off, as it's the best way to know for sure that the parts were in fact changed, as some places will bill you for the work and do nothing.

+1 If there was a ton of crap in the pump and filter, some may of gotten past it and clogged the injectors. that would explain why all 8 are bad at the same time. I would try the cleaning first.

There is a TSB covering this. It's # 00-06-04-003A.

I can e-mail it if you want it.

Yes please can you email it to [email protected]

The active fuel injector tester report gave the following results:

Flow rate

Inj1: 1.07

2: 1.01

3: 1.16

4: 1.10

5: 4.21

6: 1.00

7: 6.40

8: 7.43

ECT = +080

Balance

3: -53.3

4: -55.7

5: +68.8

6: -59.8

and I was told they were too far gone to try cleaning.

Thanks
