Going to change the fluids in the diffs and was going to put in amsoil. What is the best way to find it without ordering online and paying shipping. This will be the first time I have ever used amsoil and have heard that it is a great product. If anyone has some info it would be great to hear from you. Thanks

Go to the website and search for local dealers in your area...

Some dealers will rebate the shipping to you...

 

I used the 15w-40 Diesel Oil and the Series 2000 Read end oil (not made anymore) in my 04 2500 Dodge truck. No complaints.

 

The Mobil 1 and Valvoline Synthetic Gear Oils, and Redline oil work pretty good too..

I read somewhere that mobil1 isn't up to GM spec's and redline is just as hard to find as amsoil. thanks for the info, I will try to find a local dealer in my my area.

Are you sure you read that? Mobil's web site claims it is. Why would they put themselves in that position if they didn't meet the specs? Not trying to get you to buy Mobil, just lettin' you know that it works just fine. I wish had a Amsoil dealer near me, I'd like to try the stuff.

Looks like Mobil 1 Synthetic Rear end fluid meets the specs? Thought it only has to be GL-5 for GM spec?

Are you sure you read that? Mobil's web site claims it is. Why would they put themselves in that position if they didn't meet the specs? Not trying to get you to buy Mobil, just lettin' you know that it works just fine. I wish had a Amsoil dealer near me, I'd like to try the stuff.

I just heard that mobil1 didn't meet the specs, I would still use it because I beleive it ia a very good brand. I was really shocked when I heard that it didn't meet specs so I thought I would throw it out there and see what everyone else has heard. Alot of guys run mobil1 in the diffs. I will check out that redline site, thanks for posts.

If you give me your zip code and what you want I can quote what it would cost shipped to your door. If you look it up in the phone book under the yellow pages or white pages you might find a dealer in your area. The only problem is everyone that carries AMSOIL has to pay shipping, unless they are within driving distance of a distribution center and can pick it up directly from there. There are various centers, a few off the top of my head are Orlando, Richmond, Dallas/FortWorth, Las Vegas, Superior WI Chicago, Lancaster Pa., Columbus OH., Portland Or. Wichita Ks.

 

Everything I order either for my customers or myself I have to pay freight, unless I drive the 3 hours to the distribution center to pick it up. I wish I lived near one so I didn't have too.

I have have never the diff fluid, front or rear. I have 30,000 on the pickup and think it is time to change them out. I was going to use mobil1 but thought I would try amsoil because I have heard such good things about there oil's.

Yep, same stuff I use in the rear.

 

I should add that there is a TSB stating the front vent hose connector should be changed to a white one if not equipped if making the switch to synthetic.

 

My '02 had the black one, and still does, with no ill effects thus far. My '04 had the white.

      The oil filter has NOTHING To do with oil leak. GM sources parts from 1,000's of vendors and as with anything mass produced, flaws are unavoidable.    Putting a larger oil filter will do nothing but satisfy emotions. The OEM filter is designed for the engine and perfectly capable of handling the demands on the engine. Oversize oil filter could result in reduced flow and overall lower oil pressure.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
