Strictly GM??

So I was just wondering, is everyone in here strictly a GM person or do you like other brands? Have you always been a GM owner only or have you owned other brands and would you ever go back with the other brand? Example...I owned 3 Fords before my Sierra and never had a problem with them (2 F-150's 1 Ranger). When I bought my Sierra I was actually going to this particular dealer to look at a F150 and my Sierra was sitting next to the Ford and after driving the Ford I thought I might as well drive the GMC. After the test drive I was leaning towards the GMC for several reasons. I did like the looks of the Ford better but the ride and comfort level in the GMC was 100 times better. In this situation I made the right choice but I can't say that I will never own a Ford again.

Short of owning a 96 Dodge K2500 Ext Cab 4x4 with the V10 and a 96 Dodge Intrepid, I have always been GM. I just like their trucks, but the cars have disappointed me and my wife for several years now.

 

Currently, my wife is driving an Acura and I drive a Jeep Wrangler. I am still in search of a service truck and it will be a GM truck.

 

Will I own GM again?? Probly so. The look of the new GMC truck is really growing on me and after a couple years in the Jeep, I will either look at a Suburban or GMC truck. I love my Jeep, but I really miss my Silverado.

I have owned other brands (all domestic) but for the most part I like GM stuff. The current problem I have with GM is that besides the GTO(no longer being made), the Corvette, and some of the Caddies, their Car lines do not have anything I want. In the future when the next Camaro comes out, or the rear-wheel drive Impala, I might have a look. So if I currently if I need a car, it would most likely be a Charger. The price is not too bad for a V-8 rear wheel car, and they can be modded pretty good.

The only Ford that I would currently look at is the Mustang. Same thing as the Charger, good looks, good price. As for the foreign stuff, nothing really that I look at can justify the price( the nice ones cost too much). And the cars that are in the price range that I would consider reasonable $30,000-40,000, don't really do it for me. Just my two cents.

I like GM Ford and Dodge trucks, granted I like GM and Ford a lot more than Dodge, the only thing they have going for them is a Cummins under the hood. I like the Rumble Bees/Daytona's also. Dodges also sound very mean with a simple catback exhaust.

 

Before this truck I had a Black 1988 F150 reg cab long bed with a 300I6 and a 4 speed. It was a complete dog, it defined slow, but that tank would tow/haul like a champ. It might have only had 145 hp and made no power after 3600rpm, but it had 270 ftlbs of torque @ 1600 rpms, and is the closest a gas motor will compare to a diesel in a pickup. I pulled and rebuilt the motor with a comp truck cam, hooker super-competition long tubes w/ 2.25" true duals and bored it 30. That waked it up a bit, but towing rocked balls. It was a good truck, altho the body was falling apart.

The vehicles I've had are: 78 Impala; 84 Chevy K20; 95 Lumina; 99 GMC K2500; 00 Impala; 05 Chevy K3500. I started with GM because that's what dad drove and I've never had a reason to switch. I did just recently purchase a '91 Cherokee mainly because I don't care for the GM SUV's of that era. I picked the cherokee on looks and reviews so I'm entering unchartered territory.

 

I've had the pleasure, or pain sometimes, of driving a variety of fleet vehicles with my jobs. I'll never own a Dodge pickup, that much I do know.

My first truck was an 88 gmc cheyenne. My second was a 99 chevy z71. Third (and current) is 02 chevy z71. I have loved all three. My dad had driven fords, dodges, and chevys. The ford sucked, the dodge was ok, but not enough truck, and since the dodge he has owned 2 chevys and 1 gmc. All three of them have run great, especially for farm trucks. His 97 gmc z71 got the snot beaten out of it. His 02 2500hd crew was too big, he missed having a shorter turn radius (and it didnt fit in the garage). His current 2500hd runs great, is fairly quick for only having a flowmaster on it, pulls like a hoss. The windows are cranky (they dont like to roll down very fast any more) and it tends to overheat if its just sitting, but thats cause he cant keep the radiator clean, too much wheat gets stuck in it. But I really didnt care for the ford or the dodge. Too much trouble with them in my opinion.

My dad bought cars and trucks of different brands. He wasn't really brand specific although he has owned more gm products than any other brands.

One thing I'll give F*rd credit for is innovation and common sense like factory installed tailgate locks for example. Those traits are offset by the fact that they can't seem to get the basic stuff right. Oh and the FACT that they're so damned ugly. Every F*rd truck I've driven has never felt right to me from the seats to the gear selector on autos. There's just something about them that doesn't jive with me. That said, in the near future, I'll always be a GM person and judging just by the looks of the new model trucks, a GMC person specifically.

I have no real preference towards any manufactuer just yet. I've owned 3 vehicles in my driving career. '89 Chevy S10 Blazer, '96 Ford Ranger XLT, and '00 Mitsubishi Mirage. I will say this based on experience.

 

I want another Chevy sometime soon, but iut definately won't be an S-10 of any year I don't care if it's a pickup or Blazer.

 

That 4.0 in my Ranger was a beast, I dogged the hell out of it the a Majority of the time I drove it and I never had any engine breaks or malfunctions. My dislikes about the ranger though were that it's just too small for me, and the 4x4 system always seemed frail.

 

 

And likewise for the mirage.... it's a tank (well, as close as a 2 door coupe comes to being a tank) but it's too small. And I hate not having 4x4!

 

 

It's hard to say what my next vehicle purchase will be.

 

I want a Ford Superduty with a powerstroke, I also want a Dodge with the cummins, but I also want just about any Fullsize Chevy Truck you can think of. DECISIONS DECISISONS!!!!

My history of vehicles owned:

 

1982 GMC 3/4 4x4 6.2 diesel (loved the truck, HATED the motor)

 

1994 GMC 1500 V6 (was a very bland truck; no power ANYTHING, including the motor)

 

1994 Jeep YJ (loved the whole "Jeep" thing, but, expensive upkeep)

 

1998 Jeep TJ (By far, one of my favorite and most reliable vehicles I've ever owned. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat)

 

2000 Izuzu Rodeo (wasn't bad. never had a problem with it, but, just didn't have anything that made me happy)

 

1994 Honda Accord (very plain-jane 4-banger. With the price of gas the way it is, I'd love to have it back)

 

2000 Dodge conversion van (I liked this van. Not my absolute favorite, but, for a family, it's by far the best way to travel)

 

1994 Ford Bronco (Eddie Bauer edition with cloth seats, and the big 5.8L. Probably my 2nd favorite vehicle ever owned. I'd buy another one for nastalgia's sake)

 

1998 Ford F-150 (supercab 4x4 with the 5.4. By far my favorite interior setup of any vehicle I've ever owned. Had decent power. Had a few problems with the engine electronics, but, other than that, pretty reliable)

 

2002 GMC 2500 4x4 (my current truck. Lots of power, but uses lots of gas. By far the worst mileage of any vehicle I've EVER owned, but, 75,000 miles and still running strong so far)

 

1978 Kawasaki KZ-650 (had to throw my project bike in here. Fun to ride, and will be my only bike till I can afford a Hayabusa or BMW)

 

I have no real preference to any particular brand of vehicle. My ultimate truck would be a mutt:

 

Body Style - Ford F-350 Superduty

Interior - 97-03 Ford F-150

Powerplant - Dodge cummins 24V turbo diesel

Transmission - NV4500

Axles - Dodge 1 ton heavy duty

t-case - something similar to the atlasII that could support the torque of the cummins

mileage - Volkswagen 1.8T

 

Throw all that together with the reliability and ride comfort of a GMC/Chevy, and that would be my ultimate truck.

My family has always been partial to GM and has no trouble with them, so that is why I have stuck with GM. The S10 I had was a great realiable truck. This truck has been completly trouble free in the 3.5 years of ownership, plus I have always loved the 88-98 style of GM trucks. In the future I will always be partial to GM, but that is not to say that other manufacturers don't have good things to them as well.

Always have owned GM (other than one Honda motorcycle). My Grandpa, who fought in WWII, tried never to buy any foreign made products (which is kind of hard these days!) He always had GM & Ford vehicles, Zenith TV's, Kodak cameras, etc.

 

I'll probably always by Chevy or GMC Pickups and the wife will probable always buy Buicks. I like the new Saturns, the upcoming Malibu and Impala's look better than the current ones. GM is actually coming out with some cool new cars in the near future, the coolest one being the upcoming Camaro. I'm saving my money now!

I've always preferred GM. Always stayed American, but have had a couple Dodges in the past, and now have 2 Mustangs in the garage. They're the first Fords I've ever owned. Mustangs are the only Fords I've ever liked. I drive my Sierra daily and my wife drives her Avalanche daily. GM has lots of great stuff out now and coming out. GM is and always has been my favorite.

Definately wouldn't buy anything but GM. I guess thats what my dad grew up with so that what I'm used to.
