Seat safety upgrade for 92 C1500

I have just acquired a 92 Silverado Extended cab, and need to upgrade the seats. The front has buckets with no headrests and the rear bench is the same. I want headrests for both the front seats and the rear outboard positions. Does anyone know if the later vehicles from this generation had headrests in the back? Would a bench seat from say the rear of a 97 or 98 have headrests?

Any chance the seats from the next generation would bolt in? Easily, with some minor mods, or not at all? I'd prefer cloth to leather, but at this point will take whatever will fit and be easy to find.

Not worth it on a 15 year old truck, sorry.

Its absolutely worth it to me from a safety standpoint. If I get rear ended, my wife and I get whiplash, and my son in the back seat gets a concussion from his head slamming into the back window.

Get a newer truck. You don't even have a single air bag in that truck. There is no side impact protection either. Putting in new seats is a waste of money in something that old. I'd be more worried about other safety issues other then head rests.

Not what was asked. If the person want to put these seats in a 15year old truck let em. Its up to Jacques to decide on the time and money issue and if its worth it. I know the front benches on the 98's have head rest, and i beleive the back seats do. As for if they fit, I dont know. I'm sure they may be close, and need some modification, which comes back to the time and money issue. If you do want to make it safer, dont skimp out on the qualityof the fabrication. I would try to go out to a junk yard and take measurements between the two.

Good Luck

Thank you so much for your support. At least someone understands what it is I am trying to accomplish. I was looking at buying brand new, but if I was to drop the coin, it was not going to be a GM. I compromised, and bought something for 1/4 of what I was originally going to spend, and got something that I like a lot. Now I simply want to improve on it, and make it somewhat safer in the process.

That's a great looking truck. I think anyone should be able to relate to your safety concerns, plus headrests are nice during long trips for neck support. I hope you are able to find what you are looking for.

My 97' has headrest on the front buckets and headrest on the rear bench seat. I don't imagine it would require much modding for the fronts if you get the whole frame, both trucks have the same floor pan so it may be just drilling out a few holes. I am not sure of the rear bench because my 97' has a third door and the 92' did not. I suggest going to a junk yard and get as much of the brackets and hardware as possible too. I bet you don't spend more then $200-$300 from a junk yard. Get a LMC catalog because they show an exploded view of all the parts (good for reassembly) and you can buy anything right down to a single bolt for any peice of the truck.

I had an '89 regular cab that I actually knocked the backglass out of with my head when I got rear ended. Neck hurt for weeks too. So I feel your pain. What I did to save money (I was an E-2...And VERY broke) was I found a place that had headrests with suction cups on the back of them. Put them in the truck behind your head and press them up against the glass. Served their purpose perfectly for $20 or so. Lasted for years, and you couldn't tell that they were stuck on from the inside...And the tint kept people from seeing it from the outside as well.

Just throwing that out there as a possibility for your rear seats.

That is a GREAT looking truck by the way :flag:

Thanks a million for your help everyone. I'm sending requests to both those used sites.

I didn't realise that the 97s were available with the 3rd door. I guess I thought they only started in 99. That helps out a lot.
