my 99 yukon needs a motor and im wondering if a 5.3 will fit, it has a 5.7 now,and should i buy a rebuilt or a used motor ,is the 5.3 any good ???

There's really not much difference. I had a 97 silverado with the 5.7, and now have a 05 with the 5.3 and both are great motors. Off the line they feel about the same to me, although the 05 is a Z71, so it's a little heavier and has bigger tires than th 97, which was 2wd. A 5.3 would fit, but I say stick with the 5.7 because you'll have less problems with the computer. Since the motor is going to be out anyway, you could easily have a 5.7 built to put out more power than a stock 5.3.

He just made a sarcastic remark. He didn't attack you or offend you. No need to attack his sexuality or age.

And yes this is the GM tech section. The section where the GM Techs answer technical questions that you would take your truck into the dealer for. Not opinion questions about what motor to put in.

Oh and the amount of money and time it would take to put in a 5.3, it would be worth just buying a new rig.

Agree. The thing is 8 years old and most likely in horrible condition (considering that the engine is well....dead). As I said before, it really isn't worth it to put in a new engine. Break what you have got for parts and sell those. Get something newer. I'll go wash MY truck now, thank you...............smart ass!!!!!!!!!!!

D@MM WHAT A BUNCH OF PI55-BABIES......I'm suprised Wingnut hasn't already banned some people

swapping an SBC GEN III/IV series engine into a SBC GEN I v2 truck is a major project. Harness, computer, accessories. It's been done by many others before. Just ain't cost effective unless you have got a line on a GEN III/IV really really really cheap with harness and computer. Most of the low mileage ones that would be available most likely are the "drive by wire" type meaning that with the engine, harness, computer, the accellerator pedal had better been gotten as well.

1. Basic rebuild the 5.7

2. Performance rebuild the 5.7

3. swap with a 300HP GM crate 5.7

4. swap with a GM crate HT383 'smog-legal' package designed for the 99-classic and earlier
