Wheres the Power?!?!

I have a 2004 6.0L gas 2500HD. As such I have the worst gas mileage I have ever seen. I love the truck and the power that comes with it. But i am looking to upgrade a few things. First I have already ordered a cold air intake which should be here any day. Next i would like to configure the exhaust so that it is workign with the intake. My stock is 3" dual inlet and 3.5" outlet. The only muffler that i have found that has the same setup is the 50 series FM. Is there anything else? I also want the deep resonate sound of the FM. I was originally looking for the 40 series, but not offered in the dual 3"/3.5out. Also next on the list would be a throttle body spacer. Then cash flow permit i want to get a superchip flash pax. Any comments or recommendations for fuel economy/HP.

I HAD A 04 ss. 6.0. the pcm tune got me 1 or 2 mpg. had the flowmaster and k&n filter.

How do i figure out which exhaust will be the best. with dual inlets should i get two mufflers or stick with the one 50 series that has the setup up for a direct replacement muffler?

I tried the duels on my 01 6.0 HD, It sounded horrible, like it was under water or something, then I swiched to a Gibson side swept duel 3" in single 4" out, alot better. I went with an Outlaw cold air and a Wait4me milage tune, I average about 13mpg with a 4x4 285 tires

They work in parrallel to crank the DMax over (it takes a lot of 12V amps to spin a diesel on a 0F day). Normal for pickup truck diesels. If one battery goes bad, the good battery will get pulled down to the level of the bad battery.

Forget the throttle body spacer and put the money into a custom tune.

After all that you only get 13mpg. Bone stock my truck got 12.5 50/50 city/highway. So what your saying i am gonna spend about $500-$700 and get an extra .5mpg?

I have been told that PCM's on HD's are detuned to run on 87 octane and to keep warr. claims down. My nelson PCM tune was the best money I have spent on my 05 1500 HD 6.0 to date. I am on my 4th exhuast! I wanted duell exhaust behind rear wheels at 45 degree angle. The issue for me has been noise level, what I want is a little louder than factory as the duell exhaust look was what I really wanted. The MBRP exhaust to me

seemed the best quality/look to me. But wow is it loud, so I switched to a Magaflow muffler which was only a little quieter, so now I took a 2500

HD muffler and cut hole in oulet of muffler to make it a real duell in and out muffler, this at least is ok on hyway noise, but is still noisey and has

a raspy noise at lower speeds. One good thing about the the MBRP and Magnflow mufflers it appears that over 4,500 rpm's there is a power feel

but this may just be the noise that is making it seem faster? :driving:

I just traded my 02 6.0 in a new LBZ Dmax but I suggest you get a tune first. I had a westers 87-89 dual tune and it really woke up the 6.0. I got minor MPG gains hwy but nothing city. I drive 25k/yr and averaged 11/14 with the 6.0.

I also added a Flo-pro muffler/dual pipe set-up, as listed below, which sounded great but added zero power and was starting to sound blown out with 25k on it.

IMO you can throw a lot of $ at the 6.0l but you'll never make it a hammer. Great reliability & will work hard for you but it's not enough muscle, at least in the truck I had.

Custom PCM, only way to make an increase in power with money well spent in a gasser, you can add CAI/exhaust, but you won't notice much if anything, just the sound. You'll notice the PCM the moment you touch the gas!

I'm going through the same delima as you. I put a K&N CAI on, and I had a set of true duals put on, using two Goerlich Xlerator mufflers. My local muffler shop did it for $370, and OMG does it sound awesome! I would reccomend this setup for anyone looking to put an exhaust on a 6.0. It's not obnoxious, but you definetly hear it inside and outside of the truck. It gets loud when your crawling along at 1500 rpm's, then if your cruising at about 55- 60 on a flat road it is pretty quiet at 2 grand. Then anything from 2500 and up just freaking screams... I noticed quite an increase in power with this setup, it just gives the motor that deeeeeep throaty sound that everyone likes.. Heres the site for the mufflers. www.goerlichs.com

In a nutshell. It's what tells your vehicle how to run. An onboard computer chip that tells the vehicle what to do, when to do, and how long to do it!

    • New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
    • So, GMCustomerService:  Judging by the Update History pictured above, is this truck missing any updates that it actually needs. If it's just for the infotainment system, the radio is working fine and no trouble with SeriusXM. and Android Auto is working fine wirelessly with my phone. Some months ago, an update notice was sent to my truck. I approved the update and it finished saying that the update was successful, but it seems that whatever that update was, it didn't actually get installed - at least not if I'm to go by the Update History shown above.   So, again, are there any updates that this truck really should have? I've checked with my dealer but they're reluctant or commit to anything and if I want them to check, they require a $200.00 fee just to check it out and then I'd have to pay for the actual update(s).    Ignorance is bliss, and if none of the updates goes to fixing any mechanical discrepancies, I'll just leave things as is.
    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.
