Snakeking Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Is there anything I can do about CDs skipping over bumps, even small ones? I know they have the anti-skip in newer cars, but did that come in the 99 Silverado? What years did they start putting in the anti-skip technology and can I replace my system with that technology?
95Sierra2500 Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 I had a '99 Jimmy and never had a problem with the CDs skipping unless I REALLY hit a good bump...Same with my '98 Grand Prix. Heck even my old '96 Jimmy wouldn't skip unless I hit a pretty good bump...But here's a few questions: How old are your CDs? Old CDs can wear out and start skipping. Do you keep your CDs in a CD book with plastic sleeves? You could have gotten dirt in the sleeves and it's caused scratches on your CDs. Are they burnt CDs or store-bought ones? Not all burnt CDs are created equal, different combinations of CD-Rs and CD burners yield different results as to how easily a CD will skip.
Snakeking Posted March 7, 2007 Author Posted March 7, 2007 These CDs are all brand new that I've tried. They are kept in their CD jewel cases. And these that I have tried are all brand new, store-bought CDs. I want a new stereo (Looking at Alpine) but I can't afford it right now and I am torn about aftermarket...I just don't want my truck to become a target for thieves and gangsters looking for a new system.
