I replaced the head gasket on this vehicle because they were leaking, got the engine back together, running with a miss, and when you step on the gas while in drive it accelerates to about 3000 rpm and just dies down for about 5 seconds and does that all the way to about 45 mph, not really sure what is going on here if anyone has any thoughts i am open to suggestions, thanks. :)

I've got a similar problem with my '97 5.7 votec. It'll rev up fine in park but when driving in any gear (4L60 tranny) seems to "stall out" at about 3K RPM. If I let off the trottle it will slowly accelerate through all the gears. Lost all it's punch!!! New distributor, plugs, wires. Still the same.

I'll reply again when I find the solution.

if you do a search of my posts [long one]

my 96 5.7 made me crazy, would only rev to 3000 rpm, in any gear

short story version fuel pump sock [in tank] was plugged,

and it went from being so loud[unbearable] to just barely able to hear it.
