You will hear very positive things about Bilstien and KYB. My choice is the KYB Mono Max. It is a very high quality mono tube shock that is designed to hold up under heavy use.

Sam's Off Road has a 4 for 3 sale on Rancho RS 9000's. they have the cheapest prices and these are 9 way adjustable, great for towing.

All depends on your desire for comfort... or not. Bilstein, KYB, and some others pound like jachammers. Monroe Sense-A-Trac for comfort. OEM for exact ride.

I have the Rancho RS9000's on my 01 Sierra 2500HD and can't imagine anything better for the job. When trailering I stiffen the rears and then set them about half way for normal highway use. I leave the fronts about half way. Since I put them in, I can take my benchmark corner (turn in the US?) 20kmh faster with ease over the originals. The originals were not worn out, I just wanted something better and had used Rancho before on my Jeeps. Good luck with whatever you choose. If you go Rancho, consider the extra expense of the in cab adjustable system if you tow a lot - better than crawling all the way underneath to set the rears - but expensive.

I chose the Rancho RSX shocks for my Z71 and have been very pleased with them. If you look around you can usually find a buy 3 get 1 free deal. Got mine from Summit Racing.

Concours, I hate to disagree with you and I cannot speak for the Bilstiens. However the KYB MonoMax will not make the ride harsh in anyway. I have them on my Yukon XL and love them. I have heard some people say that the standard KYB OE replacement shock is significantly more stiff than the OE shock and the ride will be a little more harsh, however the MonoMax will not make the ride harsh.
