textruckr Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 Just found this while browsing on the Ford-Trucks site. This is relevant since both the GM and Ford trucks use the ZF made 6 speed transmission in the heavy-duty applications. The link to the article is at: http://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/superduty/3211.html Hope this doesn't help. What I mean is that I hope these problems are not common on the GM version of the ZF6! jelisfc Posted August 13, 2002 Posted August 13, 2002 I find it interesting that the ford guy in trouble has a 5.4L 6 spd. I don't understand if the ZF is 200 lbs lighter why they don't put it behind a 6.0. I'd be real tempted if they did.
Crafty1 Posted August 15, 2002 Posted August 15, 2002 I think the ZF's that GM uses are alot different. I've got 34,000 KM's on my 2500HD with the Duramax and I've had no problems with the tranny at all. I don't do alot of towing but I do drive it every day. I know of another Ford owner who has had problems with a six speed so it may be more related to them.
