Hi all: I just joined this excellent site. My question is, is the slip yoke the one that goes into the trans, or the one at the rear of the driveshaft? I am trying to correct the chirp/thud that occurs when accelerating from a stop on my 02 xtended short box z 71 with posi.

Welcome to GM Trucks.com

GM has a new nickle plated slip yoke(this is the one that slides into the rear of the transferecase)you should also change the transferecase fluid with GM autotrak fluid (2 quarts). Before installing the drive shaft add some autotrak fluid into the slip yoke splines.

You can also try and change the fluid first, remove the drive shaft and add some fluid into the slip yoke splines, reinstall it and if the noise continuos or comes back then you will need to replace the slip yoke.replace the seal with the new yoke.
