H3 Nav In A Sierra

Ok so I have searched and asked here but have found no answers. I bought a non-lux nav unit for my 06 Sierra Crew Cab Z71 a few months ago. I like it. However I HATE having to pull out the NAV DVD to play a CD. I knew about these units before I bought mine but like I said, I couldn't find any info about making this unit work in my truck.

I found this unit on eBay and stole it. Miss listed auction brought me the H3 unit for 100 bucks. I plugged it up to my truck the other day and it WORKS, not only does it work it sounds incredible! You can really tell that I have the Bose sub in the center console now. It makes me a little disappointed at the quality of the previous navigation unit. The only problems that I am facing are

1. The unit does not have the proper mounting tabs, needs modification fit correctly.

2. The unit displays H3 when you start the truck

Everything else seems to work like it should, even the rear seat entertainment system works. I have the radio not the DVD RSE. Does anyone know of others trying this set up? Here are some pics enjoy!

I'm a little surprised its working. The H3 comes from the VIN that is programmed into it. The '04 and previous units are "married" to the vehicle via the VIN and when they don't match the unit only works for a minute. Maybe they changed the "married" part with the new models. In any case the dealer should be able to reprogram it with a Chevy VIN and get your logo back.

I thought it took that information from the BCM and that is what told the unit which display to show during start up. Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the H3 unit sounds a hell of a lot better?
