Wait4me Tune Results

I got my replacement ECM from Jesse the other day. Did a before/after comparison using a G-Tech Pro. Same conditions one day apart.

0-60 with stock ECM: 8.26 seconds

0-60 with Wait4me tune: 7.83 seconds

Improvement was .43 seconds. Fuel was 87 octane.

I asked for a tune that would maximize fuel economy rather than performance. I'll measure the fuel mileage but that's harder to compare.

Good to here.... I just got word that mine is on it's way. I asked for more performance than economy. Did you have to do anything special on the install, or did it start right up??

Started immediately. Idled as it had before. There's no difference until you put your foot in it. I think the rev limiter was changed. On a full throttle run it didn't shift until 5700-5800 RPM. I'm happy with it. I hope the fuel mileage increase is as good as the performance increase.

Mine should be here in about a week. I asked for performance as well 91/93 octane. I also asked if he could eliminate the auto door locks on my '99. Anybody know if it's possible.

For me, the truck stalled immediately. Started it again, rev'ed a little high for a few seconds, then back to 'normal'.

But as in a previous reply, Not much difference at idle until you put your foot on it. :)

In another thread (don't remember which one), I gave a small report on how the truck towed my 'new to me' travel trailer, which is 5900lbs dry. I used to tow a lightweight (4100lbs) before the wait4me tune, and now with the tune and the much heavy trailer, the truck tows so much better. Definitely appreciate the tune now even more.

Now, what about the Crank Position Relearn. Got mine today, and it says this has to be done ....(even though when I asked prior to purchase, it was said no trip to the dealer was necessary). Is anyone running without this done, and can it be done without the scan tool??

I got my answer. The door locks are controlled by the body control module not the PCM.

I had the crank relearn done. I'm fortunate that my good friend is a service technican so it didn't cost me to have it done.

However, it only takes 5 mins to do and most decent shops should be able to do it.

You have to get a crank relearn even if your truck doesn't throw any codes. Jessie at Wait4me, told me he purposely tries to make it so it will throw a code so people do go out and get crank relearn.

All the dealers here wanted to charge 80 bucks for a 1 hour min. I took it to a muffler shop who had an OBD2 tool and he did it under the table for 20 bucks. It took at the most 5 min.

Installed mine today... took about 5 minutes. Started right up, no SES light. Throttle response seems to be a little better. I asked for more performance, and to get rid of the 1/2 throttle til 3000 rpm flaw. Seems to pull a little harder, haven't really driven it hard though. First trip was to pick my son up at daycare, driving right past the police station. So, I'll get it on the highway and open it up a bit.

One thing I did notice was my information center.... I have 22" wheels with no tire pressure sensors in them. I always get a message saying "check tire pressure"..... it now says "tire pressure monitors". Don't know why that changed....kinda wierd. I guess I could have asked him to disable that.

Other thing I noticed was a change in exhuast smell. Glad I kept my old computer.... I don't think this one will pass emissions.

Emissions will change with performance tuning. And the check tire pressure warning was on before because there was a problem with the sensors (missing). Now a different warning is illuminated because they need to be re-learned (doesn't matter in your case). Funny too how they're saying that "they made it where it throws a code on purpose so you go and do the crank pos. sensor relearn". LOL. FYI, any time the ECU is reprogrammed that has to be done, they have no control over it as far as I know. Also I wouldn't expect increased economy from a performance program. It takes extra fuel to create extra horsepower. My 2 cents.

TWO QUESTIONS:

If you have to use a dealer to get the crank relearn done, will they give you grief? Do you just tell the service manager or technician, "Hey I need a crank relearn?" I do not know anyone who works at a dealer here in town so I need to know how to approach my local service department.

I have an OBDII code reader but that's all it does, read and clear codes. I can't use that to do a relearn can I?

Thanks,

For the crank relearn, try a non-dealer shop to see if they have the proper equipment. Most reputable shops should.

And no, your OBDII code reader will not be capable of a crank relearn. :D

Only the GM Tech 2 or a very expensive universal scanner will be able to do the crank re-learn. They should not give you grief at all, worst case they charge you something under an hour to do it since it's not warranty. It only consist of revving the engine a few times, and pays 0.4 hours at my job. You can approach a tech or a friendly service writer and they'll get it done without any hassle. Anyone in Miami can come and see me.

Wait4me told me once you get the crank relearn done once on the new PCM, you never have to do it again. I got reprogrammed from 87 to 93, he told said no crank relearn would be needed since I already got one on that PCM.

Not a biggie if I have to, its free :D
