Cracked Frames

Just a head's up for you guys using your 2500/3500 for plowing.

 

There are lots of reports of the frame cracking on the right side of the truck just behind the upper rear control arm mount. Some 2500's and 3500's (mostly chassis cabs) have an extra tab welded at this point, and they don't seem to crack. With none chassis cabs it seems to be hit or miss if this bracket is installed. My 04 3500SRW 8.1/allison is cracked, it does have a plow prep pkg, and is under warranty.

 

If you carry a plow on your 99+ GM/Chev take a close look at the front frame where the control arms mount.

V...........Check out that link I posted. The pics are better there.

But look at the left side near the top of the control arm mount

(just below the plastic fender liner edge). See the dark line?

 

Thats the crack !..........................

PERRY........Thats the "gusset" that GM installed on some models

to reinforce the frame.

They have a poll going over at http://www.letstalksnow.com/forums

on which current Gm owners have or don't have the gussets.

Thanks for the info. I see the crack in the original pic now. Just hard to tell where exactly you were referring to at first. My truck (02 2500HD with the snow plow prep package) has the extra metal tab welded on in that spot. There is certainly no crack but I've never plowed..
