Torsion Bar Setting On My Truck?

First off, I'm a "newbie" truck owner, I just bought my first truck a few weeks ago ('03 GMC 2500HD...I LOVE the truck already!), and had some brake work done on it a few days ago. Anyway, while it was in the front end shop, the owner suggested that he crank up the torsion bars (right now they're 3/4- all the way up, not totally sure where he set them) before he did the alignment to level the truck out front to back. My question is, is there any disadvantage to having the bars cranked up like this? I like the way it looks leveled out. I will be doing some fairly heavy hauling and towing with it (I'm in landscaping), and I was wondering if having the truck leveled out now will cause the front to ride too high when having the bed full of topsoil, mulch etc, or towing a trailer. What do you think?

WHY level the truck out?

It comes from the factory with the rear end higher than the front for

a REASON ! Now when you haul or tow something your headlights

will be shining at the top of trees. Did this "expert" also realign your

headlights?

Well IF you ever tow or haul anything and your wondering why your

steering feels light , your rear end is dragging , or other issues you

will know why GM sends them from the factory that way..........

Whoa bud. Calm your nerves there MR. GM-by-the-book. Why crank the T-bars? Cause it looks better. No, it might not ride as good, you may have to re-align the truck and maybe just reset the headlights. But my truck will look better than yours anyday (not to mention have better ground clearance).

Thanks man! I'm thinking I will keep the truck level like it is not (looks better IMO). I see you're in landscaping also, have you found that your truck looks "funny" when pulling a trailer or with the bed full of topsoil or mulch? How many inches of sag are "average" in the rear with about 3,000lbs in the bed?

Leveling the truck is not a way to make front end parts were out , Usually all it takes is an inch which is perfectly with in the suspension travel limits . Not only is it common to do but as long as you are leveling and not using the keys to go 2.5 inches and up you are fine, And in a lot of cases the GM Dealer will ask if you want it leveled or even happily do this prior to an alignment.

To make this argument lets add 500 pounds to the box , truck is level now , so will driving it cause drastic part failure ? Not at all because you are within the trucks suspension limits and the trucks capacity,hence turning the keys to get level would be no different .

And being 100% against doing it is fine , but to scream it is a drastic mistake that will result in damage after millions and millions of miles have shown it to be safe is wrong.

Also if you haul loads and DO NOT have at least a set of Timbren for the rear you are not hauling weight smartly..

is a better term..............

Lift kit on your truck eh? Gee, I love the lift kit down the

road problem posts or the "dealer offered me squat after I spent THOUSANDS modding my truck" on a trade in posts.

But I suppose that stuff is wonderful for a driveway queen ego mobile.

I have a set on the front of my truck. Only because I carry a snowplow around all winter. Them along with a torsion bar twist up gives me addl. ground clearance. I also carry 1000 lbs. of ballast

in the bed.

Mostly to raise the nose as well as traction..............

I also lower my t-bar settings in the summer when the plow and ballast are not used. I have the t-bar bolt heads and, crossmember punchmarked for reference to restore to factory heights for my summer heavy towing needs...............

No need to have it realigned yearly and so far no tire wear issues

or front end parts breakage................

But to be fair I dump the truck every 3rd winter before warranty ends.

My fellow snowplowing bros. also use Timbrens in front and have been thru the mill cranking up the t-bars and suffering parts wear and hard riding....................

Nothing beats a truck harder than snowplowing!

Well regardless of your doom day thoughts let me just say, First I own the truck 100% and do not have a warranty. Second GM installs the very lift in trucks as I have as an option in many areas of the country. And honors there warranty 100% . .

And I pay cash for what buy , I never trade nor do I buy from a lot , SO again your lack of information has you making statements that have no merit in reality . You know much less then you pretend to know , it would be nice if maybe you became better informed on facts before you take such a rude and obviously childish stance on issues you are clearly clueless about .

Also as far as a driveway queen thats subjective and a personal opinion and based on how you post not a very good one ,Just LIKE cranking the T/B an inch to get level which is factually not a warranty issue 99% of the time and does Zero harm to the truck..

Enough said , well except my truck is bas a** on road , at the construction sites and logging trail I take up in the hills. . And when I snow plow ,, imagine that , all these warranty issues I created by actually making a hobby out of my work truck ....

Funny I buy a new truck every 3 years and I never have seen lift

kits advertised at any GM dealer...............

I DO see a LOT of warranty service denied posts around these threads

tho. because of mods. But then some know it all chimes in about the

Mag-Moss act and they dealer has to prove the mod., etc. caused the

problem yada yada......................

meanwhile the poor guys truck is sitting broke down and the dealer wants

$$$ to fix it !!!!!!!!!!!!

So then its obvious your the clueless one when it comes to warranty

service then since you haven't had a truck under warranty........

I read by your posts you have only had your lift kit a few months.

I can wait for your problem posts down the road.................

Go over TO fsc.com and search up 07 lifted..There are a few dealer installed lifts with pictures.. AT z71 Tahoe forums there is a dealer installed Pro comp lift and all these trucks are under GM warranty . Go 1 better and ask a dealer if the can install a lift on a new Truck..

Exactly what do you suggest will break that will not break in time any way ? A tie rod ? A idler arm ? A c/v shaft ? WOW someone help me cry over that , you mean I may have to replace a few parts some day ? Oh no my ball joints are bad !

I am not sure why you are even here at this or any forum , apparently you are mad with envy that some of us do have lifts and others want to level there truck , I bet you did something like crank the keys all he way up to max and had issues then went to a dealer for a repair and got denied service for free .. Now you post here like you do because you have yet to get over it .

It is one thing to give an opinion , it is quite another to call names and get rude as you have , Millions of miles have been put of trucks with keys turned to level , and that shows it works fine..Yet you seam to know something that these millions of driven miles do not !~!~!

Relax some , post a pic of this truck you say you own , wash it , do something , but relax and read more because you are just bad advice waiting to happen at this point in your forum experience .

Sonjaab....Dude,

What the heck happened to you? I've been reading a number of your posts for quite a wile now. In the past you have been pretty helpful, kind, and respectful of others with their questions/comments, and I've actually enjoyed some of your posts.

If someone wants to raise their truck with a 8" lift or slam it to the ground, the choice is ultimately theirs.

Sure some of the statements you make may have some validity, but it's your TONE that's a little harsh. Try lightening up a little bit and maybe those here will be a little more receptive of your comments.
