How To: Mp3 Disc Changer To A Oem Headunit And With Aux Option

Recommended Posts

I did not receive a good outcome under the SUV section so now I am posting here

As stated on the title... I want to add MP3 capability to my Suburban but I don't want to change the OEM CD player. My truck has the useless tape player which is AUX on the OEM headunit.

I searched and I found out that some CD changers come with an FM modulator so it can be used with out wires but I am more inclined towards a direct connection for better sound quality.

Im about to buy this Sony CD changer that has its own little remoted screen and has RCA out. I would imaging the AUX-in on the headunit is a DIN and... can it be spliced it to attach RCA from the CD changer?

Who has done this?

Any ideas?

Thanks

The aftermarket HU usually have a funky lookin connector specifically for an Disk changer. Try looking into the model number and see if says on there "CD changer capable" This way you don't buy something that will not work out for ya. I am willing to bet that the SONY HU will have the connector that you can use. You don;t have to splice any RCA's. Oh crap! IE just crapped on me. BRB.

Ok. Sory bout that. The HU usually comes with disk changer input. Just make sure the Disk changer that you get is compatible with your HU.

Would something like this work?? Plugs right in then connect the RCA cables. oem auto sound

Yes... you are right. That adapter will do the trick but let me explain... since I already have most of the hardware (HU with AUX-in and wires (plug) that goes towards the AUX unit), instead of buying that device, I was actually thinking if it is possible to splice the 9-pin plug that goes towards the cassette player and from there feed it with the MP3 disc changer. I'm sure the 9-pin plug feeds the headunit with at least IN signal for RT/LT, Ground, Positive terminal and perhaps remote on. Do you have the diagram for the colored wires at the 9-pin plug?
