2007 Avalanche Or 2007 Sierra Denali?

Well since there is no newbie forum to post this in I guess I will don the flame retardent suit and risk this post.

I currently drive a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon.

Yes...... a Tiburon.

Yes...... most if not all of you could very easily drive OVER my car and not notice.

Anyways, I am looking to trade it in and get a nicer, bigger vehicle. My requirements are AWD/4x4, leather, crew cab, and the navigation system (not for me, for the wife. I am a human compass..... but its still a cool toy that I want). I really like the way the Avalanche's look as they look somewhat sporty and have a nice streamlined look to them. However, the Sierra Denali is just plain badass looking. So far I've test driven the Avalanche and enjoyed it. I was expecting alittle bit better acceleration but then again the thing weights 7000 pounds. Tomorrow I plan on test driving the Sierra Denali.

I've read some reviews and from what it looks like the 6.0L matted to the 6-speed has the same if not better fuel efficiency as the 5.3L matted to the 4-speed. I know the 6.0L and 6-speed comes on the Sierra Denali but unfortunately according to GM's website the 6.0L and 6-speed don't come on the Avalanche BUT does on the Escalade EXT.

Is it possible to get the 6.0L and 6-speed on the Avalanche?

Which ever I get, it will be mostly used to move around my Yamaha R6S and random crap. Probably won't see to much off roding as much as I would like to but I live in Central Ohio and it sucks here. I just need something big, useful, and fun to drive.

In all your experiences, which is better, all around vehicle (price not a factor)?

I personally, would choose the Avalanche, but I wouldn't get a brand new 2007. This is my opinion, I just don't like the new looks of the avalanche, when i buy an avalanche, I'm going to get an older one, like 2002-2005 model, I like the looks of those ones, compared to the newer 2006-2007 models. But whatever you want to choose, I would go with the avalanche.

First off just to clarify one thing the denali comes with a 6.2l with more hp and torque then the 6.0l found in the avy and the regluar silverados. The only place you are going to get the 6 speed tranny is in the danali's. However if you wait a little longer there's a good chance they will start putting the 6 speeds across the entire line. If money is not an object id definatly go for the denali. It will have more power and just a cooler ride imo. The avys are heavier then the regular trucks and the 6.2 has over 400 hp. As far as fuel effencieny its probably a wash. More power means its going to guzzle more gas, the 6 speed will help but i dont see it having better gas miliage, i have a feeling the 5.3 with the 4 speed would actually get better then the 6.2 with the 6 but thats just my opinion either way probably similar. So id go with the truck unless you see yourself using the funtionality of the flip down seats for more box space in the avy. And if you really want the 6 speed with the avy, will probably be coming out in 08, unless they wait till 09 haven't read any articals that comfirm what year besides that it is coming in the near future. One more thing i'v seen the question floating around if you have to run premium with the 6.2L engine, i would look into that as well. I think i read somewhere that escalades run premium, and the denali's are ok on regular. But anyways just one more thing to look into. Good luck either way going to have a nice ride....

Go with the Sierra Denali without question. There isn't even a comparision to make here. The Avalanche isn't even in the same ball park. If you can afford the 07 Sierra Denali then go for it. It's one of best trucks out there. Have you read the reviews on it? The thing is simply amazing.

Yeah, I don't know how often I would use the Midgate feature plus that is one more thing that can break down the line and cost money. I just actually like the looks of the Avalanche with the "support" beams coming off the rear part of the cab. BUT the Denali is just pimp looking.

Yes, I said pimp because there is no other word for it..

The 6 speed is a denali exclusive right now. I believe GM waits 2 model years before it goes to the others, but I could be wrong and it may only be 1 year.

I really never liked the look of the Avs... so... I vote denali if you have the wallet for it.

The '07 Denali IS the king of light duty pickups at the moment. Can't go wrong if you have $40K laying around. The 6.2 w/6speed will knock your socks off at launch.

Most definitly the Big D. It kinda shuts the tundras mouth about their 381 hp. if i had an extra 10k i would of definitly got a denali. im still happy with my Silver Silvy though!

I don't think GM would want to risk waiting in this case. The only reason it isn't across the line currently is due to a lack of production and speeding up the pickup release by a year. I have the feeling that the 6 speed with the 6.0L will be the top options in the Silverado's and Sierra's for 2008 while the 6.2L will remain exclusive to the Denali.

Buy one of each, and let me drive whichever you're not currently using!

But seriously, I would go with the Denali...I've never been a fan of all that plastic on the Avalanche.

Ok, well I test drove a Sierra Denali today and..... wow. Super freaking nice and love the sound of the engine. It rides nice and isn't too bouncy. Called my insurance company to get rates on both.

Tiburon : $1106.00 per year (current vehicle)

Avalanche : $1030.00 per year

Sierra Denali : $1230.00 per year

So that isn't too bad over the course of a year. So far I am thinking Denali......

I just got the 07 Sierra Denali which I traded my 03 Avalanche for...The new truck is awesome the power is unmached by any pick-up out there. The only thing I miss about the Avy is the cargo versitility and storage compartments which is lacking in the Denali. I guess I went for the Denali for the performance and looks. I'm sure not getting the milage, only 14MPG on average compared to 15.5 with the 5.3 in the Avy. So for the performance, handling and looks I'd have to say Denali all the way, but if hauling, storage and vesitility is more important the New Avalanche is great choice.

Definately buy the Sierra Denali. You want a truck not an SUV right? I always looked at the Avy's as a soccer moms kinda truck IMO. Your bike would definately look waaaaay better in the back of a Denali.
