Anti-theft/security Light On '03 1500hd

I posted this in the GM Tech section but thought maybe others may be able to enlighten.......

I have a 2003 1500HD LT and noticed a few weeks ago that the light on the instrument cluster that is a pad lock with a truck peeking from behind it (the anti-theft/security light) is glowing faintly. At first I thought it was only at night, but then I realized it was only then it was dark that I could see it. It pulses brighter ever so slightly along with the pulse of the lock/un-lock of the keyless remote.

Now, I checked my truck-bible (owner's manual) and it mentions what to do if this light comes ON and stays on...."take it to the dealer." My truck has only 22k on it but is out of warranty due to age. Is this realy a dealer-only problem? Can a driveway tech check/test this? ....Is it expensive?

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Hi,

Did you find a fix, mine just came on yesterday. My dealer friend looked at it with the Tech2 and all looks normal from a computer perspective. He wants money to dealve deeper though.

Try and see if the system is working properly. Roll the windows down and shut the door. Lock and set the system with the remote. Reach in through the window and try to unlock and open the door and see if the alarm starts to beep.

I don't know if Sir Jeffro is still looking on this topic, but a shade-tree mechanic probably could get the code, but they still may not be able to do anything about it.

EDIT: Jeff that truck looks just like my uncle's minus the 4x4. That truck looks best in blue metallic though!!

Hey guys.........

Just saw this this morning.....

My light "went away" several weeks ago. I thought maybe the new PCM took care of it (along with the issues with the seat memory) but it was back this past Wedesday night. Now, keep in mind that my light is not "ON", it will glow faintly and pulse with other electrical functions such as door locks, windows, etc. That is why I think it may be a loose ground, but I have been unsuccessful at finding it.

When a friend of mine did the crank re-learn about four weeks ago there were no codes at that time. But that was with the new PCM and no security light glowing. We'll try to get together again this coming week and scan it again.

I'll be sure and post the results on this thread.

My padlock light on the instrument cluster was doing exactly what your light is doing, The light started to glow faintly after my left rear window latch separated from the glass, you could barely see it during the day, but at night it was bright enough to get your attention. I do not know if the broken latch had anything to do with the padlock light, but thats when the faint padlock light showed up. Anyway, after the new window was installed, the faint padlock light was still glowing. I would be curious to know if you find something unrelated to the cluster itself causing the faint padlock glow, may save me some cash in the future, instead of going out and getting a new cluster unit.

I have the same problem with my 2004 2500HD.

There is an intermittant problem with the battery going dead it the truck sits fot a week or more and the security warning light glow is also imtermittant. In addition, I have an intermittant loss of instrument cluster display (all gauges and LED's).

So far, I have not been able to find a short or ground fault. I sent the cluster to a repair facility and it was found to have no problems. Paid for the repair the same day I got the extended warranty letter from GM. A service advisor said that my total loss of display and gauges does not sound like an "approved" condition for warranty replacement and suggested wiring problem.

Anybody else experience this since the previous post?

Same thing happens to me as well. I use an after market alarm with remote start, when this happens I usually dearm the alarm, place the key in the ignition, turn the ignition so that power comes on then turn it off and shut the door and arm the alarm, it usually goes away. Sometimes I'll get the beeping sound and repeat the above method.
