Thinking Of Going To An Obs 2500 6.5 Diesel

Hi,

Im thinking of getting rid of my 2000 silvy 1500 Z71 and getting into a mid to late 90's 2500 4x4 with a 6.5 diesel engine.

A few reasons why im thinking of doing this......, I plan to be pulling a horse trailer in the near future, im hoping the 6.5 diesel will get better gas milage and I put ALOT of miles on my vehicles.

I don't know much about diesels so some insight on the 6.5 reliability and power and milage would be greatly appreciated.

Some of the older Duramax's had some heating issues. LLY, I think. Just be sure you research that part of it as you're looking. It's worth looking into if you're going to tow. I'm pretty sure by the time they got to LTZ that was resolved.

the biggest problem with the old 6.5 diesel is that its very slow and sluggish compared to the diesels of today. There is also a real lack of aftermarket parts for 6.5 to even help that situation out.

as far as problems with the 6.5 diesel's, i believe that the injection pumps had alot of issues. Im not sure about the injectors themselves.

I have a 94 CK2500 w/ the 6.5 Turbo Diesel. (I also had a 94 1500 w/ the same engine that i regret selling).

Anyway, I've got 200k miles on it and it still runs great.

You'll most likely replace the injector in it.. I think mine's had a few, only one after warrenty and its lasted a good 80k, w/ no problems.

Its a great truck and has held up nicely.... Been rear-ended in it twice, actually just about a month ago.

Wow. Just enough knowledge about the DMAX to be dangerous!

The 6.5L came before the 6600 DMAX, and I believe that you are referring to the LBZ DMAX as having any over heating issues resolved.

The LTZ is a trim / package option...and not a version of the DMAX

hoorders, is an earlier DMAX an option for you? Something like an LB7 generation would put a bigger smile on your face then a 6.5L. No offense to 6.5L guys intended, of course.

An earlier DMAX would be nice except I don't think I can afford one...............Im looking at spending 10k Canadian.............a really good condition late 90's 2500 4x4 with the 6.5 are in this range.

Im assuming the 6.5 is not a DMAX?...........when did DMAX come out?

Thanks..............
