I'm looing into getting a boat and have never owned a boat.

I'd like to know what brands are good. I'm primarily looking for a ski boat.

I'm looking to sell my 26' MacGregor Sailboat and get a 23' cuddy cabin. I prefer the quality boats like Maxum and Sea Ray.

Lesser quality boats use aluminum that oxydizes and looks like crap in about three years. Better quality boats use stainless steel and crome plating.

Outboard motors are much easier to work on and rerplace that Inboard / Outboards. I/O's have gimbals that can cost almost as much as a new motor to replace (2-5 grand).

To water ski you'll want a boat that can go at least 30 knots.

Check out http://craigslist.org/ for the best deals under 30 Grand.

Hey! I have a 19FT. Bayliner Capri Bowrider with a 4cyl. Volvo inboard. It's a great boat. Good on gas too. It is definately not a ski boat though unless you like wake jumping.

The best day of your life is the day you buy a boat.

The second best day is the day you sell it.

I gotta disagree with you on the cost of a gimble replacement. Mine went out two years ago. I bought the bearing from mercstuff.com and the local marina swapped it out for $300.

Also check out Regal boats. Thier bowriders have the power to pull a skier with the right engine, provide a dry, smooth ride and thier quality is top notch. I have an '89 Medalion which I have had for 7 years. The only problems that I have had is the steering cable locked up ($200 replacement and I installed it in a couple of hours with the help of a few brews) and the gimble bearing which went out two years ago after loudly complaining that it was tired for a couple of years.

Now I may go a little overboard (no pun inteneded) when it comes to maintance;I change the oil and filter every spring and fall before I put it up for the winter and change plugs, wires and dizzy cap every two years no matter how much or little I use it. Plus if anything acts up, I take care of it immeditly!

I apologize if I made multiple threads i was having issues with the connection or clicked too much.

Anywho, I'm going to be on lakes and rivers and my wife will flip if I spend more than 4 or 5 grand. You know what happed to the truck in "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood, yeah. I'm looking for used in good condition. If I can't find a good boat then I'm gettin a lift and tires.

You won't get a good ski boat for under $50k

Buddies just got an X-Star two years ago and there really is no going back.

Mastercraft or bust.

Boats are not cheap to buy or own. If you love the water as I do they are worth every dime. I have grown up near the water and have mostly had a boat the entire time. They are fun for sport, friends, and family. Fishing!!! Fishing!!! Fishing!!! Skiing!!! Relaxation!!! Comraderie!!! Entertainment!!! You will loose money on a boat, but it is an investment in fun. Can you put a price on that? :)
