Antifreeze In The Oil

Recommended Posts

My 1999 Suburban had an intake gasket failure and mixed about 1.5 gallons of coolant with the oil. I replaced the gaskets and changed oil before starting and then again after about 20 miles. The oil in the second change was black. How many more oil changes and how frequent to flush the rest of the antifreeze out?

Thanks.

I'm no mechanic but i do know that any type of antifreeze in the crankcase is a bad combination! I would do at least one more flush to be safe as the 20 bucks to redo a oil change is a lot better then replacing every single bearing in the engine. I would still wait for a knowledgeable mechanic on this board to assist you on what to do but redoing the oil is a cheap and safe bet to start with imo.

I would agree and add that before you do change it again, I would pour a 16 oz bottle of Seafoam in the crankcase and drive it about 10 to 20 miles at moderate speeds and RPMs and then change it again. It is a great flush and should remove anyghing left over.
