Hey guys,

So I recently swapped my whole front grille and everything and finally decided on a set of Silverstar Ultras.

I posted a thread on the Classic Truck forum, but I Guess this is really a much better place to post.

The main questions I had involved keeping my new lights clean. Anyone come up wiht a method to prevent yellowing? I was thinking Plastic X, but I'm not really sure if thats ok to use for preventative measures.

I really dig the Silverstars. I think they are most effective in the completely darkness. They work good in moderate street lighting, but really seem to come alive on smaller roads with no lighting at all. I got the 1 year on em, so I really don't care (I guess I even hope they do) go out in 10 months or so.

Has anyone ever tried out the Silverstar high beams? Are they worth it? I've noticed that in order to change the high beams, you have to actually remove the light assembly from the truck.

What you guys think about the new front end? I'm really pretty happy with it

Looks like new,...nice ! My 2000 is in need of a new grille also, the fake chrome is peeling.

That "Yellowing" doesn't seem to be a problem on the 99 1/2 and up trucks (and it may not be on the aftermarket replacement headlight assy for the older mid 90's like yours) but I can tell you my wife's Ford Contour (piece of crap) had weathered & yellowish headlight plastic and I used a buffer with polishing

compound that you would use on your paint....a "cutter" cleaner then a final polish/swirl remover is the method I used and you can do the dull tail lights too.(heck, do the whole truck while your at it!)

It worked good and they looked like new after so I'd recommend that before replacing them.

P.S if you still have the old lights, give the buffing a try, if they turn out like new you can sell them.

Thanks a lot!

Yea, one of my original lights is cracked, so I decided to replace it with the new ones.

Can I use a "cutter cleaner" with any regular foam pad? What exactly is a cutter pad? I have a 10'' Ryobi buffer and I cannot find cutter bonnets for it, so I'd decided to try all foam on my next detail job.

Yes, I was referring to the different polishes, a cutter cleaner to remove a fine layer then a polish to get the shine back, Meguiar's has all kinds of stuff, even a plastic polish.

I have a wool and a foam pad for my buffer.

Excellant. I was gonna clay, polish and wax my truck once the weather starts to get nicer, but I wasn't sure which kind of bonnet I needed for the cleaner polishes. I guess I'm gonna go with foam and see how that works.

trucks looks amazing!!! its amazing how far a little restoration can really take your truck!!! how do you like the silverstar's so far, i have them for my headlights,highbeams, and foglights, and i've never been in any other car that you could see so much of the road and the surrounding scenery!!! your trucks lookin great!!!

Steve thanks for the kind words! So far I really do like the Silverstars. I've noticed they seem to have the most effect in completley dark surroundings, but I'm really happy.

How are the highbeams? Do you think they are worth it? I don't really use my highbeams that often, and not sure than the extra $40 plus pulling my front end back apart is worth it.

I'll post more shots after the detail once the weather plays nice.

well i love the silverstar headlights, and foglights, however i dont really think that the highbeams were necessary, i NEVER need to even use them with the other silverstars on!! its amazing but since i bought the truck and replaced all the bulbs, i've had to use my highbeams once, and it was because we were driving through some of the thickest fog and rain illinois ever seen! i'm gonna try and repost that picture cuz i dont think it worked last time!
