Best Oil Choice

so i have been using mobil one full synthetic for about a year... since i got my truck.... and its good but i dont know that im that impressed with it i would like to hear your guys opinions but i dont want a war started. i listed five choices all i want to know is what your favorites are. all of them are synthetic and i would like to see what you choose. please only consider oil performance not cost. i have heard bad things about amsoil lately otherwise i would go with them. i would go with royal purple but i heard that there is a solid in the oil and that doesnt sound good to me. I use mobil one and im indifferent to it. my dad uses valvoline and im sort of mixed on that also i dont think it performs great. I dont know much about redline at all. Please dont bring up castrol, pennzoil, or any other brands because i am currently not interested in there product.

I know some guys will laugh at the meer talk of using oil from walmart. Truth is though that the walmart brand of fully synthetic oil is made by mobil and has the same makeup as mobil one. Most synthetic oils are a class III oil which still have some dino properties to them but there are some that are class IV which are a true synthetic oil. Mobil one, Amsoil, royal purple,redline are just some to name a few. Valvoline,castrol,penzoil are just some that have a class III rating. You don't have to believe me, but next time your in walmart, take a look at the rating codes on the back of the bottles and see. As we all know the higher the rating the better the oil. OH, and by the way. The walmart fully synthetic oil is only $2.99 a quart compared to 5.29 for the mobil.I have been running the walmart oil in everything I own.But as far as a good Dino oil, Valvoline has my vote due to years of racing and looking at internal engine parts at the time of engine freshen ups. Has very good lubrication qualities in all sorts of conditions and fuel use(I use methanol as my race fuel and the valvoline doesn't break down in this type of condition, compared to other oils I've used. Just my 2 cents.

I use Valvoline SynPower and i love it. I've used it in my 2500HD, my old 1996 Z71 and I use it in my race car as well. It really seems too work good.

thanks for the responses guys. i have heard that if you leave royal purple oil in your car to long it gets all bad so i am almost about to cancel them off my list unless i get some real facts from people saying there better. alot of people are talking about how great amsoil is but i still dont care if it can last 25k miles im just not into that and dont plan on taking it much more then 5k miles (please dont flame over this). i do like the quality of amsoil though. i also have heard crazy stories that royal purple adds horse power that thought just seems insane. mobil1 is great but my mom ran it 5k mi. in her toureg and it looks way to dark compared to what you guys have been saying synthetic should be like at 5k i just think i could get more performance out of a synthetic oil. now i realize that just looking at the color is not near good enough to tell if the oil is bad yet or not but i have not found an oil lab to send my oil into. my dad uses valvoline in his navigator and has no complaints. nobody has made there case for redline yet so ill just wait and see about that.

Short of doing a long-term (over 100K miles) how would any of us ever know if one oil was better than another?

Assuming that an oil meets the manufacturer's required SAE grade it will do a reasonably good job of protecting the engine. Beyond that the only way to know is whether the engine wore out any sooner with one oil when compared to another. Sure, the manufacturer's test them for a bunch of things and make claims that theirs is best, but those conditions are not present in everyday use of a car or truck.

Use a good quality motor oil, change it every 5000 miles and you'll not experience an oil related engine failure. I make that bet all the time and haven't lost yet.

P.S. That oughta be enough to stir up the brainwashed-by-some-oil-maker among us!

My only problem with Amsoil is it's not easy for me to get.

O'ya, did I mention, if you haven't looked at Pennzoil Platinum you're missing a great oil.

We've used Mobil synthetic is every car we've had since I was alive and it's been great. My first oil change will be Mobil One.

i head smething about amsoil being banned from cummins motors or something i dont know who knows if its even a fact its prob. not even true. i have not been that impressed with conventional pennzoil so sadly i have no interest in there synthetic i guess im one of those people that had a bad exp. and so have all of my friends (with normal oil)

I really cant vote yet...I used M1 for a long while, but now I have just tried out RP. I only have 1500Km on this change and cannot really make any assumptions on how it works for me as of yet. M1 never done me wrong in my car, it always came out really clean looking at every change. I should have had it lab tested, but I never thought to have it done. I will however do it with the RP in the truck after a couple more changes.
