2002 Sierra Stereo Upgrade Head Unit

I have an 02 Sierra and would simply like to replace the factory head unit with an aftermarket 1.5DIN head unit with maybe 50W per channel and HD radio or something like that. Is this a simple install with a harness that plugs into the factory connector or do a bunch of accesories wire through the factory head unit ( I think that might have happened in 03 and later?)

Thanks in advance.

Should be a no-brainer. You are correct, '03 and later got slightly more complicated with chimes and all. Check with Crutchfield and they will show you any/all adapters needed.

Few head units have 50W. The only one that comes to mind is Pioneer. Your stock speakers won't handle 50W anyway. In all honesty you'd be happier replacing the speakers with our without a new head unit. I had great results using Pioneer coaxials in my Explorer. Thats about the same total cabin size as the Sierra.

Good Luck

Thanks, I have upgraded to some pioneer door speakers already and it still is horrible. Any aftermarket head unit is a upgrade to the stock unit. The stocker is 5 W RMS but most after market units are close to 20W RMS. I think this will sound better.

Larry, I changed mine out today, in my 2000. Unplugged factory and put a pioneer in, got the antenna adapter and factory wiring plug at walmart, hooked it up and everything works perfect
