I'm looking to order an 08 Silverado or Sierra shortly if the dealers here get their acts together. I pull about a 10' enclosed Wells Cargo trailer about once a week to make the rounds doing the yards for my folks and grandmother. I have the standard chrome/black mirrors on my 99 and they do a pretty good job of allowing me to see down the sides of the trailer when I'm towing. I was just wondering if the manual extending towing mirrors with the spotter glass would offer me any improvement when towing regarding seeing behind the trailer. I haven't had any issues towing it yet in the few seasons I've had it, but being that I'm hoping to get a new truck, I thought I'd explore my options. Also, give me your thoughts on appearance. The truck will be a 1500 crew cab 4wd. Thanks.

keep the smaller mirrors it dosent sound sound like you tow a whole lot, i have the "dumbo" ones on my truck and after you get used to them there awsome but it comes down to weather or not you like the "dumbo" look, on a HD truck they look cool espically with running lights and other HD options, i just dont think they belong on a halfton, just my 2 cents

I wanted them to when we were looking, but after seeing them on the 2500's and learning they are the same mirrors available on the 1500's, I went with the standard mirrors! They just look way to big on a 1500!

CIPA makes a set of custom fit towing mirrors they sell for $69.00, I'm thinking about getting a set for when we tow our 24' Travel Trailer. Otherwise, the standard mirror look way better on a 1/2 ton truck!

I also didn't care for the "dumbo" mirrors, so I went with the standard mirrors and CIPA slip-ons for towing my 27' travel trailer. Personally I don't care for the big mirrors on the GM's, Ford's, etc. Dodge does have a nice design the rotates up 90 deg.

I think the standard mirrors should be fine for towing a 10' trailer. Get yourself a 2" round blind-spot mirror, and you'll be good to go.

I have the Sierra 08 SLT 4X4 extended cab short bed with the camper mirrors, and I love them.

I'm an old guy and not much concerned with looks, so I may not be the best judge of those things, but it looks fine to me.

It looks ....purposeful (?) maybe.

Well im not sure what the 99's had on em for mirrors, but compared to my 94 jimmy and my dads 94 sierra and 98 silverado, the stock mirrors on the 08's are friggin huge.

As many have said, it really comes down to how much you care about looks.

In my opinion the tow mirrors look a little out of character on the half tons, so I opted for the painted standard/heated/power mirrors.

On my 2500HD I had the CIPA clip ons and they worked great seeing around my huge slide in camper, I then added the extendable big towing mirrors and they looked right at home on the "bigger" truck.

If i decide to go with a travel trailer instead of my planned motorhome, I will get another set of CIPA mirrors.

It is all about your preference for looks, the towing mirrors are great though.

I put the towing mirrors on my 1500 and love em...They came stock on my 2500hd and after I got used to em it felt like I was blind when I traded in the truck. It helps a lot when I'm backing into tight spaces and of course when I'm trailering it's a world of difference. I haven't really NEEDED to extend them out yet but it's a nice option.

Of course, there are times I hate how far they stick out, I've banged them against the fence quite a few times and it sucks that the lower part isn't heated as that is what I used 90% of the time.

Since my January post, I purchased the Dumbos from a member. A customer of mine had the CIPAs on his NBS and warned me against them. Also since I posted, my truck has taken on a different stance from stock form, and I think the Dumbos will look okay on it.

The go on this week!!

Since my stock Dumbos moved to Alaska, I've noticed one thing: while the DL3s look great, you sure can't see nearly as much as with the camper/tow

I have the same color truck as you and have been thinking about the standard mirrors. I just clear the garage door opening with my camping mirrors and was wondering how many inches in width I would save by replacing my camping mirrors with the DL3's. Are you planning on keeping your original ones?

I have the same 1500 ext cab black , i got the dumbos and at first i thought the same. But i love these mirrors,I got with the truck when ordered it cost 240. It was worth it i have great mirriors, also heated and also have the directional signals in them, Like anything else its what you feel comfortable with towing is a little easier with these
