Questions About New Truck

Well we picked up our new truck last night. 07 Sierra NBS SLE1 1500 with max trailering package. Convience and preferred packages included. Dark blue color. Anyways, I have a few questions, 1) I have only found a round 7 pin trailer plug on the back of the truck and have not seen a small rectange 4 pole plug for pulling my tilt trailer and 4 wheeler. Is there supposed to be one on there or is it wired for one and just doesn't have the plug or do I need to buy an 7 pin to 4 adaptor? 2) I have heard these do not come with a wiring harness for a trailer brake controller but there is something under the dash on the drivers side that is mounted and looks like some sort of plug in for a wiring harness, what the heck is this? 3) The book says something about certain fuses for the trailer lights/brakes are installed but not hooked up, whats up with this and how do I do it? Should I just take it to the dealer, they should have to do it for free in my opinion. 4) This vehicle appearently has the ez lift tailgate package but I don't understand what the feature does, just seems like a regular tailgate to me with a lock on it. 5) Dealer and book recommend changing oil based on what the truck tells you instead of at a regular interval, is that what you guys are doing? 6)Book says 500 mile break in period, a service guy at the dealership says no break in period is required. What say you? Thanks for the help. Sorry for all the questions.

1. Yes, go to your nearest auto store or fleet/farm and you can pick up an adaptor for your 4-pin plug. No biggie.

2. What you are seeing under your dash is for plugging into a code reader or computer, it is NOT for trailer brake wiring.

3. Not sure, my truck came ready to go. When I plugged in my trailer lights, they worked. Maybe they do this automatically when a trailering pkg is bought?

4. ez lift tailgate means there is a torsion spring internal near the pivots to make lifting the tailgate easier.

5. I change oil every 3000 miles, I don't care what anyone, any book or computer says. Cheap insurance. I like clean oil inmy engine ALL of the time.

6. Break in period is much simpler these days. Just don't tow or use cruise control, vary your speed/RPMs. That is all.

Congrats......So ya got one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How did the GM deal work for ya? Did you get to check the invoice

and note the different prices???????????????

Anyhoo.........My 07 DID NOT come with any plugs or adapters for

the trailer plug. I just kept the ones from my 04 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The trailer brake controller is NOT plug n play on the 07 GMT-900s!

Heres a link to find the wires and how to hook it all up:

note on wiring a brake controller, the 4 bare wires are way up wrapped around a bundle, to the left and up from the data link connector. took me forever to find it. even brought it back to the dealer to find it, he couldn't either, was ready to call gm, and i found it, pretty well hidden. you then have to hook up two wires in the engine bay to the two blank terminals in the front of the fuse center, one is in between the fuse center and the fender, the other is taped to the brake lines under the brake reservior. i have not done it yet. probably wait till i need it on the same day and curse alot.

and yes, i used my old 7-4 pin adapter to tow a non-brake trailer and the lights all worked fine without hooking up all this stuff.

Congrats on the new truck. Sounds very similar to mine. Regarding the break-in, I waited until ~700 miles before towing my 27' travel trailer (6000#). If it's only a smaller trailer you're towing using 4-pin harness (no brakes), you should be OK towing right away.

Enjoy the new ride!

And, you need to add a fuse to enable power to one of the posts! I beleive it was a 40 amp fuse, one of the square boxy ones.

I had a heck of a time installing my Brake Controller as well. Ended up taking it to the dealer and they installed the last wire (the one hidden in the bundle between the Fuse Box and the fender) for no charge. They couldn't believe it didn't come from the factory all wired, with a plug addapter, so it could be plug-n-play!
