New To Me Duramax

Recommended Posts

I finally found my new truck this last week. Found it on Autotrader.com and called about it a week ago Thursday. Went up last Saturday and test drove it and talked numbers. Called the dealership back Monday and said I would take it. I was finally able to go get it today because I had to drive 200 miles to get to the dealership. Truck is a 2004.5 with the Duramax LLY. This this is setup up EXACTLY how I wanted it down to the color. Heres the kicker, it only had 9800 miles when I picked the truck up!!

Congrats! I just picked up a 2004 LB7 last Saturday with 14,700 miles on it. Same color, same cab, be sure to check out not only this board but dieselplace.com as both are excellent resources for the Duramax. Great truck, eh?!

An an added bonus, if you didn't get the Mulroney Sticker with the truck (mine didn't have it as most used vehicles don't), you can go to the dieselplace.com website at http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=72 and type in your VIN in a post. There's a fella there who goes by the name GMPORTER who will look up the VIN and then post the history and all the other info including options for your specific truck. Heck of a deal for a little beer money and you get to see what has been done to the truck (ie. campaigns, etc) as well as the options, when it was purchased, if there is any warranty remaining, the dealer it was purchased from originally, etc.

Thanks for the complements. I'm already a member over at dieselplace.com and had the vin run. Came back clean so that makes me feel better.

im in a similar position. (sorry to hijack thread) but i am new to THIS forum, and i am not allowed to make a new thread yet. i am about to purchase an 06 silverado, duramax, regular cab, 8' bed, 4x4 16000 miles and in show room condition( frame is still clean). Is $20,000 a good price? it is a standard truck, rollie windows, manual locks and no CD. also, im new to the diesel world, what does the LLY, LB7 and so on mean?

I know that the LLY LB7 and so forth are the engine codes. I can't tell you the difference b/c i never looked hard enough at them, because of the fact that the cost would have been too high for me. Others on the forum will be able to tell you the difference though, and I also think that there is a thread in Fullsize HD Truck that has some specs. on some of the differences.

I'm guessing that that price is decent enough seeing as the 2500 HD with the Duramax's MSRP (for a 2007 Classic) is about $30000. Now don't take my word for the gospel, because compared to some of the people on this forum I know nothing.

Good luck.

20 seems reasonable. Check NADA or KBB dot com. The letters are the engine code as follows by year:

LB7 2001-2004.5 300HP and 520 ft-lbs tq

LLY 2004.5-2005 310HP and 590 ft-lbs tq

LLY 2005-2006 310HP and 605 ft-lbs tq

LBZ 2006 (second quarter)-2007classic 360HP and 650 ft-lbs tq

In the first quarter of the 2006 model year there were two versions of the LBZ

LBZ first quarter had the same HP and tq ratings as the 2005 LLY, then the second quarter the numbers jumped to the ratings above. On the window sticker it was actually listed as the LBZ H.O. for a couple of months and soon after became the only version offered in the light duty trucks (w/ allison tranny, manual still had 310 HP version). I know it sounds confusing but alot of people on this forum were under the impression (so was I) that the LLY was carried over a couple of months into '06. A mechanic on another post corrected us stating that all D-Maxes built in 2006 are LBZ's. Take it for what it is worth. The easiest way to tell if it has the 360HP version is to look at the build date. Anything after Nov 05 would be the 360HP version. Or and easier way to tell is to look at the badge on the door. If it says "DURAMAX DIESEL" = 310 HP version. If it says "DURAMAX Allison Transmission" it is the 360 HP LBZ. Clear as mud?

You want to buy a set of nerf bar for your truck? I'm thinking about getting rid of mine.

Thanks but the freight to Alaska would make them very costly. In addition, with the winters we have here in Alaska, I'm getting a set of running boards as it keeps the road sand/gravel to a minium on the black paint. Thanks anyways.
