Noise When Shutting Off Engine?

On my 05 with a 5.3 there is a strange sound everytime I shut the engine off. It almost sounds like an air pressure relief, I've heard this on a couple of other trucks similair to mine. Does anyone know what this sound is??

No, it does it with the air off and the sound is only about 1 second right when you turn the key off.

I believe it is your fanthom air brakes.

lol! It almost sounds like it's coming from the airbox.

I have heard this before on another vehicle that had a nasty vacuum leak. Check your hoses especially your brake booster hose that goes to your upper intake. Just sounds like you have a possible small hole in a hose causing a very annoying vac leak.

its the jet turbine powering down.... seriosly i dont know what it is, but my 05 truck i drive for work does the exact same thing...

Mine does that exact same sound but it only started after i installed the K&N Cold air intake on it.

 

It seems to run fine to me.

03 suburban and 04 z71 do it when we shut them down, haven't figured out what it could possibly be but when people ask i just tell them its my turbo blowing off some steam..

My '06 w/ 5.3L also does this. With so many reporting this noise it's got to be normal, but like you I am curious as to what it is.

Yup...............my 2000 5.3 does it as well...............got to be normal................when someone asks what that sound is I just say 'what sound'?.......

my guess would be air coming back out of the cylinders out the intake track.

You should check you air filter fluid.

It's bothered me ever since I bought the truck new. I guess if it quits, then I'll worry. It almost sounds like a rush of air inside the dashboard.
