Cross Over Pipes For Dual Exhaust

Recommended Posts

Ive got a true dual setup on my 7.4L, 2.5 inch.

I was talking to the guy at the exhaust shop and i asked him about getting an H-pipe and he said that it would quiet it down about 2db's and that i would get better throttle response because of the vacuum being taken out with a cross over pipe. he also said i would gain back some of the low end power that i lost be switching to duals with out a n H-pipe.

What are your thoughts about this?

is it worth it? (he will do it for next to nothing)

would i get better performance?

Thanks!

Some sort of crossover in a true duel system is a very good idea. Your exhaust guy speeks the truth, do it!

This is a quote from Flowmaster's web site:

Do I need to install an "H" pipe to my dual exhaust?

Flowmaster strongly recommends using an "H" pipe, commonly known as a "balance tube" on all "true dual" exhaust systems. An "H" pipe equalizes the pressures between both banks of the engine giving a broader and flatter torque curve throughout the rpm range. It also eliminates "back-rap" common on deceleration, and creates a deeper mellower tone both inside and outside of the vehicle.

yeah go ahead with the H pipe, shouldn't cost 2 much all you really need is to get a piece of pipe welded in half way through the system

awesome, Thanks!

If you can run and X pipe. It will give balance out the pressure on both sides and allow for good flow.

An H is an equalization tube an an X is a forced flow equalization union tube. I recommend the X, thats what I used on my LS1.
