When Will Gm Tighten Up?

OK I think I finally had it with GM,

My 03 2500hd has been nothing but a turd, todays visit to the stealer was going to be around 1400 bucks

abs module bad unable to communicate with scanner

transfer case encoder motor bad

Last 24 months:

5 intermediate steering shafts

1 inst. guage cluster

1 fuel tank sending unit

1 set stereo speakers, upgraded due solder joints being garbage

numerous tail light bulbs replaced

1 alternator

1 set new shocks

tailgate straps

For what we are paying for these trucks you think they could have some better quality control. Dont get me wrong I love my truck and have owned nothing but GM vehicles, but I honestly think that it is going to change soon, I have seen too many people lay out alot of coin for all the problems everyone has with them. Well I just sent out the abs module after checking the grounds, to module master, does anyone know of a place to rebuild the encoder motors???

Thanks for letting me rant, I will probably goe buy a new HD Duramax now and look forward to the same problems.

I have an 02 2500HD sierra. In the 5 years i've owned it (i got it new) i've replaced:

1. Tailgate straps under recall

2. Drivers side door speaker under warranty

Seriously. Maybe im just lucky but I'd say the problems you have had are certainly not the norm. I even had the original brake pads/rotors until a month or 2 ago. Im absolutely amazed at the quality of the vehicle. The oem tires are another story..they went 18k miles...

Same here with my '01 2500HD, no problems @ 124000 miles.....but still annoyed with the CSK !

Sounds like you got a Monday or a Friday truck. any truck brand will have issues so I would not just run over to the Japanese brands for a reliable truck, you might end up really pissed off like I was.

2002 hd sierra really no problems with 95000 miles! steering clunk is only issue. Will say thought , ive really noticed lately that the paint has more little chips missing than any vehicle ive owned!

The only thing I've done to my 03 are recalls, nothing else. If you go to a car lot, there will always be a few duds on the lot, but you never know until you buy and drive it. What are your other options? Buy a Ford, no way. A Dodge, even worse. I am in the car business by trade-a whoelsaler. Sure you could spend more money and get a Nissan or Toyota, but they're no more reliable anyway. Plus, why do you think there's such a huge promotion on the new Tundras? (0% and rebates)-because people drive them and don't buy them. Plus, do real guys drive import trucks? How many contruction vehicles and utility trucks that really get used are imports? none. Sure their interiors are nicer, but after seening the thousands of cars I have, I drive a Chevy truck and my wife drives a Honda Accord. USA makes tougher trucks, but not smoother cars, and that's what I want, a tough truck and a smooth car.

My 2000 GMC only had the steering clunk issue for the most part. I was experiencing fluctuating gas gauge that started about 100K miles in. For the most part all it evr cost me was gas,oil and tires. Thats why I am now the proud owner of a 2007 NBS GMC , 2200 miles in and I love it .

All of my cars are smooth. An aunt of mine bought a honda, had nothing but trouble with it and it still rode rougher than anything in my fleet (well if you don't count the truck).

Lte was your truck bought new? Was it ever flooded, sounds like a lot of electrical issues.

I am the only owner, never flooded the hubs have barely been wet when I used the 4x4, never abused, just alot of bad soldering, when I had my inst cluster redone they told me that GM has known that it was a problem, and GM just was not gonna deal with it as of yet. The cluster guy I used in Conn. said to expect it with anything soldered in the harness in particular the 1/2 and 3/4 ton gm's.

my 02 2500hd has bin nothing but trouble too!!! i was a loyal gm person for 15 + years but i think i am done with gm too they don't beleave in a quality product anymore

had some issues with my 01 2500HD 8.1 w/ Allison

transfer case - dealer said something inside decided it wanted to be outside hole in the top of the case

rear pinion seal - leaking, had to have the drive shaft updated also

transfer case output seal - on the new d**n transfer case :wtf:

both power window regulator assemblies & motors - both died the same week :(

HVAC controls - would not switch from hot to cold

both front bearing/hub assemblies - just wore out

shocks twice - now running Edlebrock's and love them

pads and front rotor's - just recently

motor mount bolt - broke in two :driving:

but I got to say with 160,XXX miles I am very very happy with how it is lasting, and look at this stuff as required maintenance still cheaper then a new truck

when it does finally kick the bucket I think I may have to go with a new D-Max :)

I can't say that I am horribly dissatisfied with my 03' HD LT 6.0 4x4, I've owned the truck for a little over 2 years now and bought it with 45k miles. It now has 91,500. In the time i've owned it, I've had to say the biggest problem was finding an exhaust leak that was caused by broken exhaust manifold bolts. There were three broken on the drivers side and they weren't easily removed. I've learn to accept the steering clunk, it's a truck not a cadillac. I needed to have the upper control arms shimmed because they were banging back and fourth around corners even though all hardware was tighter than a 16 year old on prom night. Dealer said the control arm setup has been faulted, I think he's full of crap. My knock sensors went and that was a joyful experience to replace.... I had to remove the entire intake manifold, fuel rails etc.. to get them out. The parts themselevs weren't too expensive but the labor ( if i had someone else do it ) would have been HORRIBLE. The windshield wiper electronic module thingy went too. I found myself driving around for 3 days during the summer ( not raining ) with my wipers on. Other than those things, the truck has been really good. I'm taking it to Maine this weekend so I'm going to knock on wood.....
